Hello all,

So I finally submitted the i130. And already I'm confused before i even got my NOA1! So I am currently living a friend and his family and was looking to move out on my own in a few weeks. I just got a call from my sister saying her unemployment just ran out and she needs a roommate for a couple months to help out. I'm still trying to decide what to do, but I know it would help to be able to save a couple paychecks before moving out on my own again. I also put the address I am currently at on my i130 even though we wouldnt end up living here.

1) Will the fact that I will be changing the address where we intend to live be a problem or do they just assume that life happens and not a big deal.

2) Will changing my address twice before the NOA2 raise any red flags? And if so how do I avoid them?

3) Would it be any hassle to change the address where we intend to live and should I change it each time I move or just change it when I finally settle down in my own place in a few months?

4) Is there any other important questions I'm not asking?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Its such a hard thing this immigration process, and I just want to make sure we dont end up in AP somehow.

Thank you all so much for the help!

WHen you receive your NOA1 the PETITIONER can simply change their address online at uscis.gov but as far as beneficiary, they cannot get their address changed until the case moves to the NVC at which point you'd want to have said beneficiary call them and change it before any documents are sent out. The petitioner may be able to call as well im not sure. Be sure if the beneficiary is moving as well that they let the postal services in their area of the address change.

The only thing you are hunting for, really, is the NOA-2. If you can still receive mail at the prior address - don't sweat this.

You can handle NVC processing without a room to sleep in, just some internet access and a checkbook - see

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/221785-ds-3032-slowdown/page__view__findpost__p__3560467

and study the NVC stuff at

DS-230 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

I-864 - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3730.html

General NVC stuff - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

as there IS a spot to capture the new address on the DS-230.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

So should I just forward the mail through USPS, or would it be smarter to forward mail, and tell USCIS?

funny- i not say anything about 'forward mail'

USPS mostly does not forward USCIS postal mail, as there's a 'do not forward' thing written on the outside of the envelope.

You might want to rethink 'this' - taking out 'forward mail' from the process.

Sorry that was my misunderstanding. I should have guessed they wouldn't forward. So this kinda comes back to my original question. Since I am not sure I will be able to get my mail from where I'm at now, would it cause problems later to change my address twice in a few months with the USCIS? I know it was previously mentioned that the beneficiary cant move (which is fine since she has no plans to). I apologize for going back and forth, I just want to be absolutely sure.

Thanks!

the listed address on you, for the I-130, is at the friend's house, yes?

Surely they can handle receiving your mail, yes?

Sure - is some logistics problems if in different city from your sister - but -

your friend can 'repackage' all of your mail, send to you. Give them some money for postage and some 6 x 9 envelopes (or give them stamps and envelopes yerself )

You need the NOA-2 - but you don't need the physical paper in front of you, to step forth into NVC processing.

If there is any current 'forward order' with USPS, suggest you cancel it, until you have NOA-2 delivered - then make a new USPS 'forward order'.

Just to be clear-er -

There IS An ESTABLISHED PROCESS to change postal address on the petitioner, with USCIS. IMO, it's not 100 percent 'fail-safe', after change, is some records here on VJ, with members making posts about 'where's my NOA-2' after moving - where the NOA-2 was sent to the 'other' address.

Ok so if I got this straight. I could change my address without problems theoretically, however there may be problems actually getting my documentation in the end. So in reality I should probably wait to change my address until I move onto the NVC at which point its all new documentation and I can change my address with them. Is that about right?

You'll have to forgive me, I work nights so for me its actually quite late :)

I really do appreciate the help though!

night shifts. i envy you. when 'in full swing' i run a 36 hour 'shift', crash for 8 hours, do it all again. not boasting, just tell ya I know what it is to be tired, bleary eyed, and short of sleep. Time Zones can suck, also.

Meanwhile - ya, the last bit you wrote - you should be OK. During NVC processing, is spot on the DS-230 to capture the petitioner address again.

when you get a 5 hour 'free block o time' - review http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/262288-moving-during-i-130/page__view__findpost__p__4026584 once again, click all links, make copious note, get prepped, loaded for bear and NVC-bearskins.

I feel you for ridiculous shifts. Before my recent career change I was an audio engineer. Being on tour, it was tough getting virtually no sleep for weeks on end. I did love my job though.

Anyways, you guys rock! I'm so glad I found this board, I don't think I could have done it otherwise!
