I honestly think that some of the people here are insane - they'd have to be - it would be much kinder than the alternative that they are ignorant morons without the sense to realise that they embarrass themselves whenever they set fingers to keyboard and propagate this rubbish.

So complex economic conditions across diverse parts of a diverse country can be boiled down to ideological disputes in party politics. It's no different to the "my dad can beat up your dad" ####### that you hear from primary school children in the playground.

Lol, it could all be an entertainment value to some ;)

:star: Texas :star: hasn't done too bad throughout- I don't think. As for the area that I live in, property values have increased; property for sale is hard to find and selling quickly once on the market. In my own neighborhood the last 3 house sales have been quick and the folks I know at one of the houses sold for 15% more than he bought the house for 2 years ago. I thought that was rather good considering the times we live in. We and most of our friends have managed to retain our jobs and the company owners I know are still eeeking out a profit.

The down side is the heat in the Summer.

The traffic in the DFW metroplex and Houston....worst.ever ( and I have done the I-5 L.A to Seattle)

Too many snakes/bugs/biting things/creepy biting spiders.

Oh and the heat of Summer ( mentioned twice because it's hotter than hell here).

The upside is the property market is moving. Our house is really nice yet still affordable. I have my horse(L) here at a ranch. This town is a nice place to raise a family and the local government is fiscally conservative; yet investing heavily in infrastructure and education.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

I'm guessing you never read Bible (or maybe you read it and then forgot)--as it confirms that banning what God states as abomination does bring blessings.

Keep your bible to yourself.

Damnit. This is going to just bring in more and more people to fill up paradise. Life is good here for sure and no place are the people more friendly. The babes are way hotter. Business climate is always strong. The resources that Texas has is second to none. One of the largest and busiest ports in the world is down the road from me. We have a world renown medical center complex. Education is maybe the icing on the cake. The beauty is awe inspiring. When all is said and done it is no wonder the jealousy we see from others.

Actually. Private Pyle, some of you ARE just Morons. I know it is not as "kind" as assuming you are insane, but I will get over it.

Economic conditions in Texas have nothing whatever to do with politics or butt seks. Or even taxes. Florida and Nevada are tanking. Vermont is doing realtively well, New hampshire replaces sales tax and income tax with property tax...a wash. Texas has what people want right now and they do well, big surprise. In the 1980s they didn't have what people wanted and did poorly. Big shocker. Texas has MUCH higher taxes now than they did in the 1980s and still the economy came back. Because now they have what people want and as long as they can compete in the world oil market, they will do fine. Texas oil is more expensive to extract "environmental and labor costs being infinitely higher than the middle east) and less effiecient. West Texas intermediate is not nearly as easy to refine as Saudi light. So as long as oil stays up their at $70 per barrel, all is sweetness and light. Let the prices tumble down to below what the companies get and the pumps get turned off and Abilene, Odessa, Midland, San Angelo get boarded up again.

Any attempt to state otherwise or to imagine it could never change or to give the bible credit is or to blame butt seks is just moronic

You've obviously misread what I wrote (and I won't even be snarky about it and make reference to ESL lessons) as I didn't say the economic conditions (in general) had anything to do with politics or "butt seks".

Perhaps you should take it up with the posters who said "nyah-nyah look at the liberal states". That's what I was referencing.

It is hot as hell and humid to boot on the coast but we survive somehow. The babes do wear a lot less clothing though and that is a plus. Also our winters are pretty mild. It is funny as hell to be playing golf in winter on a nice course and in shorts usually and then go home and watch the northerners digging out of another snowstorm. It is funny that we have so many things to do outside also when it is so hot here. We have many venues and places that is great to go eat and watch sports or a local band while enjoying a brew and they are outside. Not sure how we do this but we do.

So why is the average Australian and Canadian are worth more than 3 Texans [combined]? AKA Tax theory goes straight out the window.

Cheap taxes are good for business. Last time I checked, the majority of Americans don't own a business, therefore, rely on income. As such,I am interested in what goes into my pocket. Why would I give a #### if my company pays zero tax or 90% tax.

Edited by Booyah!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

The last time oil price fell we did very well. We actually make a lot of money in the state from making the products needed from the refined side. The one thing no oje has seen is that Texas is actually the largest electronics manufacturing state. (Bet everyone thought it was California) We also have large amounts of other businesses. The petrochemical industry is just so large that is dwarfs everything else. Fuel to power the vehicles is actually small compared to petrochemicals that are needed for everything. Our cities rule on plastics and other things that we all need just to live and survive. The big oil bust in the 70's taught us well and we did something about it. We went and forced diversification and offered huge incentives to any business to move their operations here. It was an expensive outlay but has paid huge dividends now.

My former small town that I live in is now the largest city in Galveston county. I am not too happy about it as it was real nice and laid back and now we are getting the headaches that come with growth and was looking to move to another small town. Now that we have started a business that is from the get go thriving and soon to be adding more businesses it is for sure we will stay and put up with the inconvenience. I travel all over this country to all the states and no one can tell me how great they have it. There is beauty everywhere I go but no matter where I am at any given moment I know and want to come home to paradise.

I am a 7th generation Texan and have no intention of moving back to "paradise". I will not be the one encroaching on your peice of paradise. Life is good in Vermont. The babes are 100 times hotter in Ukraine than Texas (not even the same definition of "hot" or "babe") so I brought one back, we have the Maple Syrup and you will pay for it!

Vermont was recently voted the "smartest state" has the highest graduation rate and is always rated in the top 5 of states for education. We have a world class medical facility here because we have to meet the needs of 2 million Canadians with national health care! The parking lot is full of Quebec license plates. They are a leading heart center. (Fletcher Allen Health Care) Lowest crime, low obesity rates (helps with the "babe" category, at least percentage wise) stable home prices.

There is little beauty in Texas to compare to Vermont. I lived in both. Check my photos for the view from my front porch.

You are delusional then and think that I have never been to the state but I have. It is a pretty state but that is all. There are few people there because no one wants to live so far north and freeze their nuts off. The people seem miserable and treat everyone rudely. The best thing about going to Vermont is when you leave. The only reason I can see such a need for gun ownership is that the gays there are so aggressive. Just stopping somewhere to take a leak was a hassle. Quite a few cars came in to harass me and I try to ignore them and get my business done. The last time one guy got out and begged me to watch me take a leak. The only thing I can think of that makes Vermont attractive to a former Texan is maybe they are gay. Also I guess that Ukraines babes look like men to a guy with those tendencies so I can see how they look so great to someone of that persuasion. To each their own but I prefer real babes.

You know I am quite proud of myself as a Texan/Vermonter. I never said one bad word about Texas, I never would, I was born there, so were the previous 6 generations on my mother's side, so were my children. As a Texan (maybe you are one of those transplanted Yankees?) we were told never to make fun of where other people lived and that to defend Texas it was never necessary to criticize where someone else lived. What happened? What happened that a Texican would so lose his confidence that he can say nothing good about his home state and only bad things about another person's? Certainly not the spirit of those that died at the Alamo, who hailed from many states, most of them NOT from Texas. Shameful behaviour really. My mother is ashamed of you, pure hateful talk and potty humor. Texas deserves better.

Please do not soil the image of my home state with your hateful talk.

i was already :bonk: myself for driving a standard into that mess. my leg went numb from all the clutch pedal pushing. i don't live there so, why would i know the local bypasses? & why weren't the locals on them instead of parking infront of me?
a simple approach; "when you are on a beltway (perimeter/ring-road) EVERY exit is a POTENTIAL local bypass". ("potential" due to living in DC, where there is oft no alternative to the Beltway--in Dallas, the exited-to routes except for Dalls-tollway ARE bypasses, and this is also the case in Atlanta and Baltimore, and very much so in Memphis). BTW, I've driven mostly stick (exceptions between trading in my old red Jetta-stick which had 225K miles on it for a dark-blue one with auto; and since April 2009 when I was forced to replace my red Aveo-stick after a totalling) since 1995.

And it is surprising that in Dallas, it would take half-hour to do quarter-mile--even for someone who HAS had experience of it taking 70 minutes to do the roughly 4.5 miles from VA-7 to the MD-border on I-495 DC-beltway--given that DC's traffic is generally considered far worse than Dallas's, and is compounded by the bad road-design.

as for driving in LA or NY you couldn't pay me to do it. ask HAL. i flew to Chicago. just so i wouldn't have to drive in that mess up there. when we couldn't take the train & walk to the destination, we had to take a cab. almost every cab i got in, the driver was so stressed out & jittery. i wasn't sure if i should have just walked the 5-10 miles, so i'd make it alive....people can keep the big city congestion, i don't want any part of it.

Being a Canadian/Texan, I can say that the cost of goods in TX is far better than the cost in Canada. My parents are always trying to figure out what they can bring back to Canada when they visit me. Figuring out how much or little it will cost in taxes once it hits the Canada border. Even without taxes and looking strictly at price, the same stuff is cheaper in TX.

As for NY/LA being more connected than TX? I don't think so.

Foreign governments have established 89 consular offices in metropolitan Houston. Forty foreign governments maintain trade and commercial offices here and 23 active foreign chambers of commerce and trade associations.[85] Twenty-five foreign banks representing 13 nations operate in Houston, providing financial assistance to the international community.[86] In 2008, Houston received top ranking on Kiplinger's Personal Finance Best Cities of 2008 list which ranks cities on their local economy, employment opportunities, reasonable living costs and quality of life.[87] The city ranked fourth for highest increase in the local technological innovation over the preceding 15 years, according to Forbes magazine.[88] In the same year, the city ranked second on the annual Fortune 500 list of company headquarters,[6] ranked first for Forbes Best Cities for College Graduates,[89] and ranked first on Forbes list of Best Cities to Buy a Home.[90]

If I were to move to somewhere else in the USA, it would be either Colorado, Hawaii, or New Hampshire. Reasons are fairly obvious.
