Hi,

First of all thank you for taking your time into reading my question.

My situation is a bit complicated (like who's isn't you say? but you can see...) and it's hard for me to figure out if I'm filling the form correctly.

My situation:

I was adopted to Japanese parents shortly after my birth, I was born in Venezuela and my biological mother was American. I obtained my US Citizenship in 2008, classified as citizen birth out of country.

I need help in:

Question 3) Did you gain permanent residence through adoption.

I answered No because I gained nothing from my Japanese parents, I gained US citizenship through my biological parents. Did I answer this correctly?

Question 13) If you are U.S. citizen, complete the following. My citizenship was acquired through (check one):

I don't know what to say in this one. I wasn't born in US and I didn't go through the naturalization process. So my guess is to check "parents" but I'm not sure what certificate of citizenship in my own name means. If I obtained US Citizenship from my biological mother after the adoption, as a citizen born out of US, how do I answer?

Question 19) Your relative's address abroad.

My parents are currently living in US with me with a valid VISA. Is it ok to answer N/A on this question or should I list their home address in Japan?

Again, any information on this case will be very helpful. I tried getting myself a lawyer but he quoted me $3,000 for both parents and I'm too young to afford that kind of money. I read on this page that there's a NGO that helps with case such as this but I don't know how to search in Miami, FL. Please let me know kindly if you have an idea.

Thank you very much for your time!

I am confused- were you legally adopted by the Japanese parents? And who are you applying for, your Japanese, adopted parents? Because I was under the impression that a legal adoption severs all ties to the biological parents, and thus gaining citizenship from your bio mother would not have been possible.

Hi, I'm sorry for not explaining too well.

I was legally adopted to Japanese parents, and my biological mother was an American. I'm applying visa for my adopted Japanese parents.

I used a lawyer to obtain my citizenship, and was advised that I was classified as "Citizen born out of state" as the legal adoption took place after I was born.
