Hi all,

I am facing one more problem.

My country of birth is Belarus. While applying for my marriage license(on the computer), I picked Byelorussia. This is an old name for my country since the time of USSR but the only option that was available, so i picked that.

However, the county's clerk made a mistake, cutting off the first part of the country's name and leaving it as Russia. I did not realize that until i got home. Went back to the office the same day but was told that nothing could be fixed right on the spot and i had to mail an application to amend the mistake to Sacramento. I was also told that it was goin to take 6 to 9 months for the application to be processed. Fortunately, the license was still good for wedding ceremony, but the mistake was carried to the Marriage License now:(

Filled in the application to amend within a week, mailed it hoping that the notice of acceptance will come after a few days and i can attach it to I-485/I-130 showing that the mistake is being corrected by officials and i am not trying to misrepresent the info on my immigration papers.

Had not received anything from Sacramento Office for 2 months and had to call them yesterday. The lady on the phone said that my application had been rejected due to the incorrect fee enclosed with the check and i would have to fill it in all over again. In the information packet on "how to amend the mistake on my Marriage license" it was written $13 dollars(what i wrote as a check for) but aparently THE FEE IS $14.. again the MISTAKE OF THE COUNTY OFFICE.

So what do i do now, I am about to mail my forms to USCIS, shall i attach a copy of the application to amend that i am goin to fill in (AGAIN) so they know that I am correcting the mistake???

Please, advice!

Yes.

Sorry. I couldn't resist.

That's what I would do. Send in a copy of application to amend, and maybe even attach an explanation about the mistake. Sorry for your hassles. It's a tedious process.

Love your name, by the way. It's equivalent to Julia, right?
