 I know, I thought that too when I read it. Still, you never know - and men might benefit from it too ;)

I had a C-section for medical reasons - I would have preferred not to have had to if I could have given birth any other way - they didn't hold off for days though, just until it was the only option and they considered it risky for the baby to wait any longer. It would be surprising if a Dr chose to with hold required treatment but things do happen that way sometimes, unfortunately.

There are a LOT of reasons it'd be good to have a CSection. I'm not going to say anything bad to anyone that has to make the decision. I just wish doctors weren't so quick to try to speed things up. As long as we end up with cute and healthy babies, YAY!!!

Our VisaJourney started July 2009 when I mailed the 129-F

Fiance here February 2010, married 10 days later

GC received in the mail 10-Jun-2010

I agree totally, if a Dr or a mother want to 'speed things up' for convenience, that seems wrong to me but medically required C-Sections have saved many lives

My membranes were sweeped on a Wednesday afternoon and early Thurs morning my labor started - it didn't hurt me much when the midwife did that. But I was in labor for forever it felt like. I wanted them to do something about it and they wouldn't...instead I got sent home from the hospital twice. I had horrible back labor from 2cm onward and they wouldn't let me stay b/c I wasn't progressing fast enough and a nurse didn't believe me about how bad it hurt. When I went back the third time after being in labor at home all night, I was already 7cm and my water had broken plus there was meconium. I never got past 7cm after many hours even with pitocin. My labor started early in the morning of a Thursday and Kavi was delivered by C-Section 7:01pm Friday. That is like 36 hours of being in labor! I wish they would have let me stay at least the 2nd time I went and helped the process. So maybe my hospital and Dr/Midwife were a lot less rushy. Without the medical interventions, and IV for me, I really don't know what would have happened to me. I needed them. And so far Kavi doesn't have any allergy issues.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Actually the bacteria on your skin is known as Staphylococcus Aureus..."Staph" and is the cause of many food poisonings...I have never heard of getting sick from vaginal bacteria...although anything is possible...what a sick topic! lol

About membrane sweeping...that was more painful than labor itself.

In the UK this is true, it's not considered an option without some medical necessity being involved. In the US it's an elective procedure 'choice'. I don't get it personally - there are significant risks with all forms of delivery but why would one choose to have one's abdomen sliced, it's a procedure that cuts through muscle and deep tissue, that's not something I would voluntarily undertake for 'convenience'.

Is it true that a C-section actually cuts through the muscle tissue? At our childbirth class, the way it was explained led me to believe that the skin fat and uterus are cut while the muscle, which consists of fibers which run vertically in the abdomen is pushed to one side or the other. Although the fibers are separated one from another, the individual fibers remain intact.

Chlamydia?

Well if mom should have an STD she'd most likely be given antibiotics while in labor.

About the muscles. I always thought they were cut. I know there's a 'gentle c/s' way where the muscles get torn not cut. Either way...IT HURT LIKE HELL.

My husband was a CS and he has/had both asthma and allergies. Who knows, there might be something in it.

All I know is I want a vaginal birth unless absolutely medically necessary for a CS. I don't know why women would choose to have one. I don't fancy that recovery.

Group B Streptococcus

* Group B streptococcus, or group B strep, is a bacterium that causes life- threatening infections in newborns. Group B strep can also cause disease in pregnant women, the elderly, and adults with other illnesses.

* Many people carry group B strep bacteria in their bodies without developing infection or illness. However, the bacteria can become deadly to people with weakened immune systems.

* Pregnant women can transmit group B strep to their newborns at birth. Group B strep is the most common cause of blood infections and meningitis in newborns.

* Most cases of group B strep disease in newborns can be prevented by giving certain pregnant women antibiotics during labor.

What is group B streptococcus (group B strep)?

Group B streptococcus (group B strep) is a bacterium that causes life-threatening infections in newborn infants. Group B strep can also cause serious diseases in pregnant women, the elderly, and adults with other illnesses. The letter "B" refers to a classification of bacteria in the genus Streptococcus according to the makeup of the organism's cell wall.

What kinds of illnesses does group B strep cause?

In newborns, group B strep is the most common cause of sepsis (infection of the bloodstream) and meningitis (infection of the lining and fluid surrounding the brain) and a common cause of pneumonia. Group B strep disease in newborns usually occurs in the first week of life ("early- onset"). Babies can also get a slightly less serious "late-onset" form of group B strep disease that develops a week to a few months after birth.

In adults, group B strep usually causes no symptoms. However, in rare cases, it can lead to serious bloodstream infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and pneumonia, especially in people with weakened immune systems and other health problems, such as diabetes.

How do people get infected with group B strep?

Group B strep bacteria are different from many other types of bacteria that can cause disease. People can be "colonized" with group B strep. This means that they carry the bacteria in their bodies but are not infected and do not become sick. Adults can carry the bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, genital tract, or urinary tract. About 10% to 30% of pregnant women are colonized with group B strep in the genital tract.

Colonization with group B strep is usually harmless. The bacteria can become deadly, though, if something happens that allows them to invade the bloodstream. In adults, weakened immunity resulting from cancer treatment or a chronic illness can prompt an infection. More often, pregnant women who carry the bacteria can unknowingly transmit group B strep to their newborns at birth. Newborns can acquire early-onset group B strep disease either before or during delivery. The cause of late-onset disease in babies is not well understood.

I was in Labor and Delivery for 3.5 days (had to be induced due to medical condition) and finally had to have an emergency c-section (son went into fetal distress as the cord was wrapped around his neck 3 times). The first few days were painful - but not unmanageable, and by 4 to 5 days later I didn't need anymore pain meds. I actually recovered like a champ from my surgery - suture site was fine in a week and I was all better within 2 weeks.

Hi Everyone,

Hmmm...What an interesting article about C-Section births.....

My son was born via emergency C-Section....

I tried a natural delivery (which I preferred and wanted) and was actually in labour for 8-10 hours...ouch....

But something went wrong....

So we had no other choice and he had to be born via emergency C-section instead, which saved both of our lives...

Sure, the recovery afterwards was bad for the both of us too after the C-section, but at least in the end, we are both ok.

Needless to say, that despite being born via C-section, my son is perfectly healthy.

In fact, he's NEVER gotten sick before, despite being a year old....

And he doesn't have any allergies or asthma either....

Heck, I was born via C-section too, many years ago...and I don't have allergies or asthma either....

So I don't know if this article is fully true or not...

Nevertheless, the most important thing, is that regardless of how the baby is delivered, that both the baby and the mother are safe and healthy, no matter what it takes for the baby to be born, whether by c-section or natural delivery.....

Happy and healthy babies to everyone!

P.S. More preventable way of not getting sick is to use basic common sense, regardless of age and method of delivery...

For example..

-Washing hands

-Avoiding people who are sick

-Don't go out when one is sick

-Get immunizations/shots

-Be informed about health issues

-Get regular medical checkups

-Etc.

Hope this helps too...
