Hi everyone!

I will send out the papers for AOS this week.

For Christmas I want to visit my family in Germany, but I don't know when I will fly out (maybe I will have my Green Card until than, so I don't even need a travel document.

So I guess it would not make sense to fill out I-131 and send it in with the AOS papers. If I apply later for I-131, how long does it take until I get a travel document? how much does it costs?

thanks for your help.

Hi, congrats on your filing!

Many people that send in AOS applications include a form I-131 Advance Parole because it's related to their petition and doesn't cost a penny more.

You usually have it within the 90 days it takes to get your EAD.

No harm in applying, It's a "better safe than sorry" situation ;)

I was in a similar situation - filed in July and wanted AP for Christmas. I just put approximative dates, they are not going to be written on the AP anyway so I don't think it matters even if you end up not using it on those same dates.

Since it's free you might as well file for it just in case :)

how much is the cost when I want an AP after I send in the AOS package?

There's no cost, all you have to do is include a copy of your I-797C Notice of Action for the form I-485 that you receive when you submit your AOS package.
