My husband's salary is not enough, so we are getting a joint-sponsor. The thing is that for 3-4 months ever year, his place of business closes and he receives unemployment. When I filed the I-864 (for him), I put down the amount on his W-2, but didn't think to put down the unemployment. I'm not even sure what written proof I would have to attach regarding the unemployment. Everything is done by phone, so I don't think I have a written statement of how much he receives.

Now, should I track that down and add it to the rest? Or, since we have a joint-sponsor anyway (and since the unemployment wouldn't put us over the 125% limit), should I leave it as is (just with his W-2, no unemployment)?

Oh, and before you ask. Yes! We're almost ready to file. The 1/2" thick folder is sitting right here on my desk. We had some unscheduled events that drained our finances, but once we're back on track and medical gets done, this little pile of paper will be in the mail. I say... a month at most. :blush:

They are not going to force you to add income if you don't want to.

Your joint sponsor has to earn more than 125% of the poverty guidlines, I doubt they're gonna let someone that claims unemployment sponsor you? That's insane!

Your joint sponsor has to earn more than 125% of the poverty guidlines, I doubt they're gonna let someone that claims unemployment sponsor you? That's insane!

I don't remember seeing a form 1099 in our taxes. Ever. So, I think I'm with Trailmix on this one.

Also, if you read carefully what I said: my husband, the one receiving unemployment, is not meeting the 125%. That is why we're getting a joint sponsor, who meets the 125% requirement.

Mmmm I guess we will have to see. We are sending a copy of the W-2s with the taxes. I would be at a loss regarding to 1099 since I know for a fact now (I`ve checked) that we don't have those.

I would send everything you have. If it's on the main tax forms, then you should have the supporting documentation. If it's not there, then you don't have to worry about sending it. I think.

So did I. We were asked to submit everything my sponsor and joint sponsor had submitted to the IRS for 2009.

I obviously read the first post wrong (even though I read it again and it doesn't seem 100% clear) what I would say, is just fill out as much information as you can, send them everything they ask for aswell. They will pick up on any small detail.
