Being in the US unlawfully isn't even a misdemeanor.

You violate a nation's sovereignty, you will be blown out of the water, shot down, etc. if you do not comply with orders to remove yourself.

It's actually a much more serious offense.

Discuss the issue but stop the personal attacks. They add nothing to the conversation and only serve to stir up angry responses.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

But the kids are working for their parents, so it's different. DIdn't YOUR parents put you to work, steven? It shouldn't matter where the kids work, be it at home or at a business--the parents can tell the kids what to do.

If you followed what I posted, you'd realize that I'm not arguing in favor of Rule of Law here. I was merely pointing out to Paul that Rule of Law isn't as important as reasonable application of law.

What if the kids DO NOT WANT to work at the pizza place? Now what side are you people on? Child Labor laws are there for a reason.

There is also a real risk of injury to this child, working in a restaurant around hot ovens, knives etc, not a real safe place for a child in my opinion.

So really Rule of Law is not what matters most but rather reasonable application of law?

What matters is that the government does not tell someone how to run their own business with their own family. Is there something unclear about that? I trust PARENTS more than government. I trust business owners who invest their money and stand to lose money to make decisions which are best for their business.

What if they do not WANT to clean their bedroom? This is a family business. It is not someone elses children, it is THEIR children. I trust the parents to handle any objections the way they do with other things. We sure as heck do not need LAWS to tell us how to handle objections to family responsibilities by children. What a ridiculous argument.

The child needs to be taught safety. That will prevent accidents. Keeping them away from hot stoves until they are 16 will not. I grew up on a ranch and cannot even remember a time I did not work and I assure you their was more dangerous things than hot stoves. There was even LEAD in the paint in those days (horror!) So the child will not work but will be out skatboarding or riding bicycles or roaming the neighborhood unsupervised while the parents work and that is safe...oh yeah, no child ever gets hurt doing those things. Connecticutt allows children to work on farms, but not family pizza places. What a stupid law. What a horribly stupid law.

Of course there is a hidden agenda, you are a liberal. Now what will you spring on Paul? I am amazed Pual falls for this, but then he is a political HACK just like you. It is not about "rule of law" it is about who can makle better decisions for chldren, parents or government? Who can make a better decision for a small business, the owner or the government?

I would not suggest that "reasonable application" is better than a "rule" I suggest that stupid laws be removed, changed or struck down. If the law is stupid, unreasonable if you prefer, then change it so that it is not stupid or unreasonable. It is STUPID to allow children to work on a family owned farm, but not in a family owned restaraunt.
