Go on the us embassy website for casa and it tells you all the requirements. No appointment needed, just stop by when they first open and bring passport and money and there are some forms I believe you have to fill out also.

Make sure to call for their hours...They don't operate many hours and have certain days....Don't make a wasted trip. Call...If she has ever been married, she will need to show her divorce papers...they may or may not ask for them....also take her passport and birth certificate too since she should already have this for the process. It is actually two papers from the Embassy...a letter of Eligibility to marry (meaning she is single and divorce is final) and a letter stating her nationality. You pay for BOTH but they put it on one sheet! I don't remember what the fees were in 2008.

These are my questions:

1. Are the only forms you need to submit to Rabat the ones that you receive from the US Consulate? If not, which forms exactly need to be submitted in Rabat?

2. Do these need to be translated into Arabic before submitting to Rabat?

3. Do you get an appointment ticket in Rabat that asks you to come back later that morning or day?

4. Is it at Rabat where they decide how long you must wait before you get married?

5. Do I need a Moroccan Police Record if I am not a resident of Morocco?

The reason I am asking is because I want to know if all the other documents (US Police Record, Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Employment and Salary Verification, Moroccan Medical Exam) are for submitting in the city where we are getting married, so that I can wait to get those translated there.

Since I have to travel across the country - 10 hours away - I want to be able to do what I need to for Casablanca and Rabat right away, as quickly as possible, so I don't have to go back there later and drive another 20 hours back and forth.

Thanks to all of you who answer my questions. Once I return, I will give a step by step account of the process I went through to help any others.

The fee is $60 USD. You need your passport. I just did all this 2 weeks ago. They open for US citizens at 8:30 am.

1. Are the only forms you need to submit to Rabat the ones that you receive from the US Consulate? If not, which forms exactly need to be submitted in Rabat?you need your original passport and the certified copy of passport from Consulate plus the affidavit of Nationality and eligibility to marry

2. Do these need to be translated into Arabic before submitting to Rabat? nono

3. Do you get an appointment ticket in Rabat that asks you to come back later that morning or day?no they just tell you come back later

4. Is it at Rabat where they decide how long you must wait before you get married?no. that is decided by the local courthouse

5. Do I need a Moroccan Police Record if I am not a resident of Morocco?yes. from the Ministry of Justice in Rabat

But yes, they are submitted in your city.

This is what I posted a couple weeks ago to help:

Day 1....to US Consolate to get affidavit of eligibility and nationality AND notorized passport pages.

Then to Rabat to Foreign Ministry to get papers certified (15 minute wait)

Then to Ministry of Justice to get police certificate of no arrest in Morocco. They required a 10 dhm stamp which we had to

get somewhere else and then back for a 4 hour wait.

Day 2- to Fez. To take all paperwork originals to translator. Already he had copies but need to certify originals.

Then to doctor to get medical certificate. Then to lab to have blood drawn for pregnancy test (negative, of course).

Two hour wait. Then back to doctor with lab results.

Day 3- Pick up translations of all documents and take to courthouse. Made five copies. Required another state stamp Had to go somewhere

else to get it. Then back to courthouse. After 4 hour wait we were sent home to return the next day.

Day 4- Back to courthouse. Finally got paperwork to take to police and state department at 2 pm. Then to police station to take paperwork

and drop it off. Police interview scheduled for 4 pm. So to state de[artment while we wait. Drop off papers at state department.

Interview on the spot. Then back to police station where we waited until 10 pm for interview.

Interview done and paperwork with approval being mailed to court. Told to come back in 30 days to receive for authorization to marry.

These are my questions:

1. Are the only forms you need to submit to Rabat the ones that you receive from the US Consulate? If not, which forms exactly need to be submitted in Rabat?

I don't know; my husband kept track of all of that.

2. Do these need to be translated into Arabic before submitting to Rabat?

YES. Anything that needs to be submitted for marriage needs to be translated to Arabic. Imagine it in the reverse - submitting paperwork here in the US to get married. Would you submit anything in Arabic before getting it translated to English? The national language there is Arabic. Anything that gets submitted has to be translated by a certified translator.

3. Do you get an appointment ticket in Rabat that asks you to come back later that morning or day?

After you stand in line at the first building, you do get a ticket with a time on it. In the meantime, you go to the other building and submit paperwork. We had lunch and waited near the second building for the paperwork to be done there. After it was, we went back to the first government agency and got the paperwork we needed there. Other ladies might know the names of each of the government agencies in Rabat. Again, I didn't pay attention. My husband knew what we had to do, and I basically went where he went.

4. Is it at Rabat where they decide how long you must wait before you get married?

No, they decide in whatever city you're getting married in.

5. Do I need a Moroccan Police Record if I am not a resident of Morocco?

Yes. You need a criminal clearance from USA in order to get married in Morocco. This also has to be translated to Arabic before submitting it.

The reason I am asking is because I want to know if all the other documents (US Police Record, Birth Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Employment and Salary Verification, Moroccan Medical Exam) are for submitting in the city where we are getting married, so that I can wait to get those translated there.

Sorry, I don't remember where everything got submitted and when. The best thing to do is have your fiance find out this information, so you can both be fully prepared.

Since I have to travel across the country - 10 hours away - I want to be able to do what I need to for Casablanca and Rabat right away, as quickly as possible, so I don't have to go back there later and drive another 20 hours back and forth.

The papers that are submitted in Rabat are just a certified by the Consulate copy of your passport and the Affidavit of Nationality and Eligibility to marry. These two papers are submitted to the Foreign Ministry and do not need to be translated into Arabic. I submitted them in English the same day that I went to Casa with zero problem. It was when I went to the local court in Fez that we needed all of the translations.

The other reason for going to Rabat is the Minitry of Justice for proof you were not arrested in Morocco. In the end you will need proof of no arrests in both countries. I just took a state no- arrest record with me. It can take up to 12 weeks to get an FBI clearance here.

i luv my fiance - Did you get the papers translated that you received from the U.S. Consulate before you took them to Rabat? If so, can you tell me where you got them translated?

msheesha - I am out of the U.S. on June 30! Hope I can get it all straight by then!wacko.gif Imad is just finishing his exams, so he hasn't had time to think about papers or anything yet. I'm trying to get it all straight this week. Hopefully, I will be there long enough - a month and 10 days.

Regards,

Lisa

Yeah, I got a state record too! I applied for FBI, but jeesh, it takes way too long.
