we have another question that will help us so much if you can guys share from your experience what worked for you.

My wife translated her birth certificate into English from her language; we heard we have to certify translations at notarized places, is it true? if so, who can certify translations? but we didn't find anything on translations being certified in form instructions.

As far as I know it can't be translate by the applicants what I did was my friend translate and atach a statement that she was a Portuguese native speaker and English speaker and that she translate that document and she notarized that was all . So far no problems :)

04/30/10 First medical appointment

she needs to have a 3rd party do the translations... the document is 'ertified' by the translator and can be notarized as translated only.. the notary is not a common requirement.. usually its just a certified orginal BC along with a certified translation...

so, I can ask my friend do the translation and ask her to certify it anywhere they notarize documents, or did I hear that it's not necessary to notarize the translation of the documents?

there is a format used here relative to certifying translations... that should be all that is needed, but if the translation is done where it can be notarized, the person that does the translation, can also have it notarized if you want to go that far... the translator would just do the certification in front of a notary.. this would not make it a notarized copy.. just that the notary saw the translator sign it...

I have been told that the person can translate their own document. To have a third party translate it and then ask a notary to notarise the document doesn't make sense since the notary won't know if the translation is correct (unless they speak both languages).

The person translating needs to add something like this:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Address

That is the certification. I have seen many people translate their own documents and they haven't reported any problems.

Adjustment of Status

11/03/10 ------- AoS (I-130/I-485) Package mailed out (Priority Mail)

11/07/10 ------- AoS Package received and singed for

11/10/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (emails)

11/12/10 ------- NOA1 received for I-130, I-485 and I-765 (hard copies)

11/12/10 ------- Touches on I-130, I-485 and I-765

11/19/10 ------- Biometrics appointment letter received

12/06/10 ------- RFE for I-693 (I think the issue is that it was not signed. Called USCIS and will receive a letter in a few days explaining)

12/13/10 ------- Biometrics done

12/16/10 ------- EAD card in production (email)

12/20/10 ------- Received "Letter of Explanation" for RFE (Service Request to expedite my case. Called USCIS and was told to ignore that and just send in response to RFE.)

12/22/10 ------- Touch (Email for Post Decision Activity on EAD saying that a letter of approval has been mailed out)

12/24/10 ------- Received EAD in the mail

12/27/10 ------- Applied for SSN

12/31/10 ------- Received Interview letter

01/03/11 ------- Received SSN card in the mail

01/07/11 ------- Mailed out response to RFE (I-693)

01/15/11 ------- Email confirming USCIS received RFE response

01/31/11 ------- Approved!

Pre-Adjustment of Status:

2006 -------- Met Online

02/07 ------- Visited him in the U.S. for what was suppose to be a few weeks (Came in with birth certificate and health card. Health card expired a few months after)

08/07 ------- Decided to get married because we didn't want to be apart (in the U.S.)

10/10 ------- USCIS Medical Done
