So we all know that anyone born in Russia must travel to Russia w/their Russian zagranpasport, not a US Passport w/Russian visa.

I will check the archives cause I know this has been asked: when Anna Smirnova becomes Anna Smith, does she buy her plane ticket for Russia under Anna Smith or Smirnova? My husband is contemplating a name change.

From what I've heard, it's supposed to be the name on the green card or US passport because that's what they're going to check on the way out and on the way back in.

Entering Russia, they probably won't check to match the ticket to the Russian passport, they'll only check that the person entering is valid to enter. On the way out, they'll only be concerned that you have authorization outside of Russia, i.e. - a US passport.

A good way to clear all this up is to get the "stamp" put into his zagran. You can send it to the nearest consulate (Houston?) or stop by and they'll update it for you.

Everybody says you have to buy plane tickets in your passport name and carry the green card with you, they can scan it and find out why you changed your name, and there wont be any problems..

I just traveled back with and i bought the plane tickets in my maiden name(passport name) and my green card has my married name, and i had no problems, they didnt even ask anything..

Alla did not change her name and I am finding it SO much easier. That said, I have heard tickets being purchased BOTH ways. The airlines require a GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID in the name as it is on the tickets. You have a government issued ID in both names...take your pick and show the proper ID. If the green card ans Russian passport have different names, I suggest you also carry a copy of the marriage certificate to show the name change.

I just got my renewed RUSSIAN PASSPORT at the consulate in Houston, they told me to travel with marriage certificate, because they do not change names in passport?what? she said it has to be close to expiration date, and they used to put a little paper in there when girls got married but they do not do that any more. The procedure is to get your internal passport changed first with correct name and than apply for new zagran passport. What a pain in the ....!so , just bring your marriage certificate with you when you travel .
