Ok, so far we have accomplished the following:

Filed I-130 and DS-230 Part 1, on the same day in Frankfurt (July 27)

Received Packet 3 (containing affidavit of support, etc.) (July 27)

Faxed OF-169 stating we have all of the documentation together (August 8)

We were told that we could do the medical in Frankfurt the day of the Interview, now I see that some have early appointents, so there is a chance that there won't be time to do the medical on the same day... My question is this: Does it help to have the medical done ahead of time, because the doctor sends some documents that have to be approved too, or doesn't that matter? And what is Package 4... I am worried that we have forgotten something, all of your timelines seem so long compared to the one I just listed above...

Not exactly sure about DCF, but for a K1, the medical must be done before the interview.

Once packet 3 is ready and you have sent the checklist back, they will send packet 4 with the interview appointment.

Curious as to how the DCF may differ, if at all.

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Yes our medical has to be done before the interview too, but can also be done on the DAY of the interview - before the interview. Just worried if we get an early appointment there will be no time for the medical on the interview date.

Ok, so Packet 4 just has your interview appointment date on it? Nothing else needs to be done after the OF-169 is faxed, right?

That would be cutting it too close for me... do it the day before and stay in a hotel in Frankfurt that night. Why risk missing such an important appointment.

As far as I know, that's all packet 4 is...

We're not quite there yet, though... almost!

Hi Docs,

If you got your I-130 approved & got the DS-230 & OF-169 to the consulate and really have all the supporting docs, then it sounds like you are OK. In your packet 3, did they give you a list of doctors in Germany where you can get the medical exam? There are several cities where you can have it done. We went ahead & got the medical done in Munich for my husband in the meantime & they have sent the results to the consulate. It's nice to know that it's done (and everything is OK) and should make the interview day a little calmer, but lots of people do the medical the day-of and it works out fine. FYI, his appt took about 2 hours start to finish including running around the corner to get his x-rays done and bringing them back for examination, but the office should tell you this when you make an appt.

Don't worry about your timeline being short, some of the ones you see have steps that don't apply to you, or include things as an FYI for other people going through the same thing.

7-24-06: OF-169, passport bio page & DS-230 Part 1 faxed to Frankfurt. Requested interview in Sept due to travel in August.

7-27-06: Medical in Munich, everything OK and forms forwarded to the consulate.

Yep, what Suzy said :)

I haven't had my medical yet either (Frankfurt is a walk-in so I imagine I'll head up there once I get the appointment date) but if for any reason you don't get the medical done beforehand, it just means the consulate has to wait for the medical results to reach them before they issue your visa.

It depends on how much of a rush you're in I guess; do you want your visa as quickly as possible? If so, I'd get the medical done sooner rather than later so there's no way it'll hold you up.

Of course, if you're hours away from any German city that does medicals, it's not so easy. I'm just an hour or so by train from Frankfurt so I'll probably hop up there one Friday morning and go shopping (they have great shops there!) in the afternoon.

Good luck :)

I wrote my timeline to help others. I provided some details that wouldn't normally be there. For example, some people ask if you have to be married for a certain amount of time before you can file the petition. Well, looking at my timeline, one could deduce that no such requirement exists.

Why do you think you missed or forgot something?

Candace, Suzy, and I all mailed in our petitions. You seemed to have filed yours in person. Perhaps that explains the brevity of your timeline?

My thoughts are that you should get your medical exam completed before the visa interview, especially if you are located in a city where a panel physician is.
