Socialism is not a legal concept. It is a cultural one. To draw conclusions about someone landing in jail if they are from a 'socialist' nation is quite a stretch.

I did not say that I said it could be a conequence of those actions.

It is not a stretch.

In a socialistic society laws are made without regard to individual freedoms.

It is a freedom here in the USA to fly any flag with respect to the US flag.

It is also not a stretch in a Socialistic Society to censor the people who do not agree with those society laws. It is also not a stretch for those same individuals to be detained indefinitely in the same type of society.

Socialism is used as both a cultural concept and as a poltical view in which laws are made.

Most US citizens have no problems with social laws until those laws infringe on their individaul rights.

Perhaps we can cite some examples of "socialist countries" where flying another country's flag is illegal. ;)

It's not really a big issue to be honest.

As for the other part - who outside of terror suspects (something that also happens in the US) gets detained indefinitely in a "socialistic society"?

Lets see.

I am not a student of law or a student of law in other countries.

As for flying a flag this falls under the Freedom of Speech in where someone can express their views fully without oppression or breaking a law in that country.

So lets make a list social governments that restrict freedom of speech shall we:

China

North Korea

Cuba

Vietnam

Libya

Egypt

Venezuala

Greece (i could be wrong on this one)

I could find more if you wish.

Of course there is countries that balance Socialism with Capitalism similar to the USA but lean far more to socialism than we do. They also have much much smaller populations and strong anti-Illegal immigration laws.

Norway

Sweden

Denmark

There are some in Europe like

France (economy is worse than ours)

But I am sure you can provide more countries that are not failing with a Socilistic government which do not oppress its peoples rights.

Yep....follow the money trail. Unfortunately when he lies, omits the facts, or misrepresents his nose doesn't give him away like Pinochio.

No freedom of speech here, but we can fly the American flag in Vietnam. This is in the front of the school where I teach.

Cool

Is the the US flag given respect over ther Vietnamese flag?

Or would that be against the law there.

Again Mad is taking the flag example out of context; it is all about freedom of speech.

Btw I am in no way claiming one country is better than another in these posts even though I am biased to ours over others.

I assume it would be against the law, but ours is flying in the middle there. I was real surprised when I saw them.

Where is the Vietnamese flag displayed?

under etiquette here the US flag could be displayed with other flags but would be displayed to its own rightand the others to the left of it.

I could be wrong.

I don't think Vietnam follows US rules for displaying flags per se, but I bet they follow something similar, with the Vietnamese flag given the preference.

They should go National>State>Military>Other Vietnamese

The school has it wrong...there's a big surprise.

Back to topic. I just read the article. I put as much credence into this guys theory as I do the theory that 9/11 was deliberately contrived by the powers that were.
