Walk a mile in my shoes

No two people walk at exactly the same pace naturally.

When two people take a walk together, it stands to reason the one of them is walking more slowly than their natural pace or they would become separated.

The one who slows is showing tolerance and co-operation.

My natural walking style is to stroll along but look at the world around me and to stop and savour it or photograph it sometimes too

For example, if I see a couple of marmots outside their burrow playing I might want to stop for say 3 or even 4 minutes. Other times it will be some ducklings I stop and I watch them go by. Yet other times I will sit on a seat by a lake and watch the light on the water or take in the view and the sunshine.

However, a couple of times in my life, I have had a lady partner who wants to walk fast and never stop and they berate me for my strolling style of walking.

Naturally, being a gentleman, I speculate that they are overly lathered up and too bothered about cellulite or their beam measurements to take in natural beauty and they are missing out on life. They deny this of course and say its me who is slothful or even old. My style of walking and looking and watching has never changed since I was 5, so naturally I reject the old bit.

They always deny that they are missing anything and say they like the country walks and they wont go to the gym or do an exercise bike.

I dont believe them.

I just wondered if any other humans had experienced this phenomenon and had found a way to deal with intolerant Amazons/Tarzans out on a calorie mission ?

I am a fast walker and my husband is a slow walker. I am also much more observant about our surroundings than he is, and am often pointing things out to him. Being the kind and considerate person I am, however, I slow my pace to his even though it actually is more tiring in the long run, and wait until I go for walks on my own to walk at my natural walking pace. A good relationship is often a series of compromises - as long as it is not always the same person doing the compromising.

I can actually do 10 mile walks and get the train back - and often 'out-tortoise' and certainly out stella-artois the panting companion. It's just that I like to stop and smell the sheepmuck and the roses sometimes. She says he sees everything too but if so, why are her photos always blurred ?

I have this problem, primarily because I am a hair under five feet tall. My legs just don't stride as far as other people's, but I find that if the person I'm walking with is truly enjoying my company, they will slow their pace. My soon to be ex (6 feet) has long walked at his own pace, much faster than my own. I have to jog to keep up with him. Another reason to be shot of him!

I am a 6 foot job with perfectly proportioned legs according to my mother - but hustle bustle just isn't my style

Well, it's the short gams coupled with a personality that wants to take it all in, I suppose. Sure, when I'm running late I can bustle withe best of them (lived in London for over a decade, it's a survival tactic) but mostly I am happier to take my time and observe.

Well, it's the short gams coupled with a personality that wants to take it all in, I suppose. Sure, when I'm running late I can bustle withe best of them (lived in London for over a decade, it's a survival tactic) but mostly I am happier to take my time and observe.
