That doesn't really prove anything - might also say that the Labour opposition is just trying to defend 13 years of dodgy economic policy that are a big part of the reason for the current situation (certainly the pensions crisis) and that their party has lost the public trust.

Perhaps so, but the Conservatives are trying to paint this as a crisis from bad domestic policy rather than a fallout from greed and poor judgment by the financial sector. With a stalled economy then everything becomes part of the crisis.

You need to read up on where a lot of these cuts are going to fall. The previous Labour government apparently approved a number of programs without funding them in the weeks leading up to the General Election, knowing the incoming Conservative-based government would have to axe them straight away and lay themselves open to just this kind of criticism.

And if you thought the EU wasn't hit hard, you obviously didn't hear about the UK and the pit it's in.

Exactly how many "hundreds of thousands of jobless people stopped searching for work" to make these statistics look good.

"stopped looking for work" is a euphamism for "ran out of unemployment benefits".

let's face it, America's industry has shed all of the excess staff that was essential for their profits in the 2002-2006 boom, and industry jobs are 60-70% of what they were, in terms of numbers. the are not climbing at all, when you take the cencus workers out of the picture, and we are still importing indians by the hundreds of thousands for jobs that are not here.
