actually, there are many differences between a commonwealth and a state. these differences are largely related to internal political structure, but they are important. commonwealths tend to have more layers of political autonomy, and more localisation of tax regulation and public services responsibility. puerto rico is also a commonwealth of the united states, as was the phils until it was granted independence in the late 40's.

When three of the four states were originally founded they chose to call themselves "commonwealths" primarily to distinguish themselves as having governments of popular consent, as opposed to the Royal Colonies they had been previously. Kentucky is unique among the four because it wasn't one of the original 13 colonies, but wished to establish itself as free and independent. The concept of "common good" or "common will" was not unique to the commonwealth states, and there is no common political structure shared by commonwealth states today that distinguishes them from states that do not refer to themselves as commonwealths, though it's fair to say that all states have significant differences in their internal political structures. If you want to apply the commonwealth concept of a sovereign nation, then Kentucky probably deserves to call itself a commonwealth more than Massachusetts, because the latter grants much more authority to the state government.

From the perspective of the federal government, there is no difference between a state that refers to itself as a commonwealth and a state that does not, which was implied by jcrom's post.

pay for her ticket home, send her lots of money while she is there, let her get very comfortable there... everyone likes "home" when they are rich at home, make her so rich she forgets about her GC and the expiration date then once it expires stop sending money.

while she is there, be extremely nice to her and understanding.

be sure to connect with her on the computer so you know she is still actually home (you need to see her on web cam).

***

forgot to mention, about going home, tell her you want her to go home to see family and rest and maybe later she'll feel different... just get her to go home on your dime.

Trying to get her green card revoked is not something to waste your time on. If she lied about everything in her emails as you say then there is little reason to believe she is going back to Cambodia, but good reason to believe it is a lie to convince you not to give her trouble with the 10 year green card she will apply for.

Very sorry this happened to you. It's like being shot in the gut with a cannon. But all effort now needs to be directed towards healing yourself.
