As a resident of NY, here's to hoping that they don't pass anything and they shut down. It's not like I would miss them. I just renewed my license and registration and beyond that I can think of why I need them (and if they didn't exist to harass me, I wouldn't need them for that either).

Let's hope you don't need the police or fire department. Or schools. Or trash pickup,

centralized water distribution and sewage. Do you walk to work? Because mass transit

is out, and the roads and bridges will be unmaintained.

Police - but a few guns!

Fire - Buy a water Hose

School - Home School! Cmon now!

Trash - Drive to the dump!

Water Distribution/Sewage - ok, you win this one...

Mass Transit - should be paid for by those who use it.

:P

Probably, but I still don't feel sorry for smokers. Smoking is bad for them some and unproven conclusively to be bad for the people around them.

They can either quit or cough up the cash.

fixed.

So glad you support demonizing people just because you don't like what they do in their free time. You ultimately have a choice to be around it or not.

Smoking is bad for "some"? And good for others? Whatever it is you're smoking, pass it around, man.

Anyway, I'm not saying tobacco (or any other drugs for that matter) should be illegal.

At the same time, I don't think that taxing tobacco is "demonizing" smokers any more

than taxing gas-guzzling vehicles is demonizing truck drivers. It's about making

people pay more for things that are bad for society in general. And yes, smoking is

bad for your lungs and at least unpleasant for everyone else, no matter how you spin it.

Smoking is bad for a lot of people. Not for everyone. It's just like with any other thing out there. Some people are more susceptible to reactions within the body than others.

As are as "unpleasant for everyone else" - you have a choice to be around it or not be around. The anti-smoking crowd is full of idiocy and narcissism in thinking they have a "right" to go into an establishment and not be around smoke. You have no right to go into a commercial establishment to begin with, let alone make your own rules for being in there... It's ridiculous.

There again, you're demonizing certain groups because you feel as though they should be punished for their actions that you disagree with. Of course many might disagree with your personal activities, so I suppose you'd have no problem with people taxing you extra for those either....
