I am having lots of difficulties. I applied to change my name in April and it still isn't changed! I got my EAD on wednesday so I went there again and my card wasn't verifying, so I have to wait again! My bigger problem is that I can't get a driver's license until my SSN name is changed and my Canadian DL is expired now. I waited this long, I guess I can wait some more. I'm sorry you're going through the same thing

Has any one had a problem changing their name on SSN after marriage on K1 status? Our local office says we need green card in hand to change name.

That's what the SS office told me before. Now that i have my green card, i can change it into my married name.

Hazel, and I ended up having to wait it out. Thankfully waiting for the greencard is the fastest part.

You don't NEED a GC to change your name on your SSN, well.. you're not supposed to need it, but some offices can make it VERY difficult and it's not worth the hassle. You should also be able to change it when you get your EAD. I have my EAD approved but I don't have it yet. I WAS going to wait until my greencard to change my SSN to my married name (so I could have the "DHS authorisation required" part removed at the same time) but I've decided that I want my SSN to match my work permit name... i'm not sure if it would cause problems down the line when working/reporting taxes if the names are different so I decided better to be safe than sorry!
