Now, before the Israeli bombardment, some Israeli soldiers were kidnapped. Before some Israeli soldiers were kidnapped (1) Israel had traded Lebanese prisoners for kidnapped soldiers repeatedly (which is undoubtedly why Hezbollah thought kidnapping more Israeli soldiers was a good idea); and (2) Israel may or may not have shelled a civilian beach in Gaza. So obviously Hezbollah provoked Israel (and Israel may have provoked Hezbollah first, or it may not have), but not with rocket attacks.

Of course, Israel did claim to know where Hezbollah's rockets were, yet it destroyed Lebanon's airport and other civilian buildings before destroying Hezbollah's stores of rockets. You have to wonder how that produce-refrigeration plant was a valuable terrorist resource rather than, say, a place where hungry civilians got food.

Lebanon used to be a secular democracy with a burgeoning tourist industry whose government was struggling to wrest control away from Hezbollah. Now, of course, it's a wreck whose citizens have seen Israel destroy the aforementioned airport and produce-refrigeration plants, as well as mosques, Christian churches, and hospitals. How, precisely, does it help Israel's cause to destroy so many civilian lives? If Canada started bombing the US over the actions of some wackos in the Midwest, would you be angry at the wackos in the Midwest, or at Canada for ruining your country?

what i was referencing is that hezbollah has frequently fired rockets into israel.....

My thoughts also. Hezbollah is clearly at fault - but the Israeli offensive has done more damage to the civilian population of Lebanon

Saying that the civilians who stayed or were unable to leave are 'fair game' when Israel has destroyed the transportation infrastructure and that their deaths are the fault of Hezbollah rings a little hollow to me.

We're talking a 1000+ civilian dead, and nearly 1 million displaced people. In anyone's estimation that is a humanitarian crisis of massive proportions.
