Happy Friday everyone!

John had a day off work today, we went out to the SS Office this morning then went out shopping. In a little bit we are going to watch England VS Algeria game.

It's raining and thundering here in SW FL. It's still kinda hot and humid though!!

Wonderful and Jeanne, In my teen years I had a BIG crush on Halim although he passed away 11 years before I was even born!!:lol: John knows that and whenever he sees me listening to Halim, he says: "Well, he's dead now." LOL

There's something about his life story and songs.

Anyways, I'm listening to this song now:

Hope everyone is having a good day! :)

Hey Olivia! How are you? How's Waleed doing with his USMLE?

We're doing good. Waleed & I are house sitting the beautiful old haunted house for the next 2 and a half weeks in Boise. He says he's not afraid of the ghost. It's the same one that I house sat for 2 years ago this time and I wouldn't go upstairs because that's where to ghost is. I'll go upstairs this time since he's here and the bed is up there and I have to feed the hamsters in the kids rooms up there. Last time I slept on the couch downstairs.

Also 3 years ago we filed our first petitions at this time and now we've just filed our AOS & EAD nearly the same time 3 years ago. We're past the honeymoon stage of his arrival and settling into the phase of "ok this is who we're really living with" now. It's really nice to have him here. It's interesting to see him pray five times a day and go to the Mosque each week for the Friday prayer. He didn't used to be so strict like that back in Hurghada. I spoke with some other wives like us and they mentioned that this happens at first because they are new here and making adjustments to our culture while feeling familiarity and finding comfort in still practicing their culture. He wants me to do Ramadan with him but I can't fast like he does. I get the shakes from not having anything for too long. Plus I'm totally ill equipped and so is our area for making Ramadan foods. He says he's going to do it though but others in the area have said he'll see when Ramadan comes nobody does it here their first year. Maybe he can enjoy it with some friends from the Mosque? I suggested visiting his Sister's for awhile during this time since they invited us to Baltimore. He doesn't want to spend the money on the travel expenses.

I settled into the house here with bringing the food & clothes in while he's at the Mosque today for the Friday prayer. He made some Egyptian friends there and he likes to go ride bicycles with one of them afterwards. I just hope he can find his way back to the house later. It's not far from the Mosque.

He's marching along for his USMLE steps since he can't work right now and is kind of isolated out where we live. He still studies 12 hours a day and takes one day a week off. He's going to register for the second step of the USMLE at the end of August in hopes to get a place for the exam in November or December. His sister in Baltimore is completing her PhD at Johns Hopkins and is taking step 3 in June so she will be a liscensed MD here in the states. She doesn't know if they will go back to Egypt to her University to give her disertation after what happened with her Husband not being given the oppurtunity to give his dissertation and the University not awarding his PhD because of the whole lawsuit, over the issue to allow him to give his dissertation in a timely manner. It's the same University for her as well. She has a real internal conflict because of what she may face back home and she has two young girls and if she stays here and practices Cardiology then she has to start from the begining as and intern or a fellow and she will be too busy and she has two small girls to raise and doesn't want to miss that.

Her Husband is studying for the USMLE now and is signed up to take the exam for his first step here soon. He's going to let my Husband know the results after that so he may have an idea since they are doing the USMLE steps at the same time. We are hoping for him to complete all his steps and catch the registration in September 2011 for the matching and placing in March 2012. I told him I want to move to California. He can interview where he likes though. His Sister told us she is going to apply this September for matching in placing March 2011 on the East Coast. This is because they have to go to interviews and they can't afford to travel out here. Plus all their contacts are on the East Coast right now. All our contacts are on the West Coast. We may also move to Oregon or Washington but somewhere along the water for sure. I said though I don't want to go back to Texas though I wouldn't mind living in Dallas. I have some family there and family and friends in Austin but I don't want to live in Austin again or Texas really. I want to experience a new state. If he wants to apply to places along the East Coast to be near his family that is fine too & maybe he could stay with them for his interviews there, if they are still here by then.

Right now I'm buying time doing odd jobs like baby sitting and house sitting and making crafts to sell liking beaded jewlery and stainglass pieces to make the money for his exams and our food and trying to save what is leftover for when we move to where he is placed as a Doctor. I'm also applying to TV stations and radio stations and various jobs to put this college degree to work but it's very hard psychologically when you get so many rejection letters over the past 6 months. I've been persistant but it makes me feel like a loser. Since May I haven't put anymore applications in as I've been busy watching my neice & house sitting and making crafts. I've been stuck on the same book for a couple of months. There is a lot of summer reading I'd like to do but haven't had the time.

How are you and Wael doing? I haven't seen any updates from you in the daily thread or elsewhere in awhile.

Happy Friday everyone!

Have you seen the movie "Halim" in which Ahmed and Haitham Zaki act? I think it was released in 06 right after Ahmed Zaki's death. AWESOME MOVIE!! :luv:
