Hi, i don't know if anyone can help clear my mind and maybe put me at ease (probably not, it may go the other way) but i have my medical on the 30th in London, i am type 2 diabetic, it is quite poorly controlled i.e i have missed prescriptions and appointments, however my last Hb test my blood was 9.1, i know its high but not that high, and all my other functions were normal i.e kidney, thyroid, cholestorol, urine and blood pressure. I am tablet and diet controlled, not on insulin, im just worried now that this is gonna cause me to fail my medical, i know they dont primarilly look for diabetes but when i declare it im worried they are going to want to see my records...i should add that i do now have it under control and have got my head around the fact that i am diabetic..the last Hb test was done with me taking my meds over the past 6 weeks not the 12 weeks that they test for which is why it is still high, the nurse told me that my next one will be a lot lower...i am really stressing about this and i know it's my own fault just been hard over the years to come to terms with but i now have a hold on it, anybody else been in similar or same situation??

Don't worry about it - the government only cares that you don't have an infectious disease that you could potentially pass on to others in the US. As long as you don't have anything like that, you are good to go for immigration purposes.

It should not be a major issue as it is not a communicable disease. They may check a bit closer about your fiance's ability to financially support you/ whether you will have health insurance in the USA (I know they do that with elderly immigrants), so if your fiance will be able to put you on his health insurance at work or similar, bringing proof of that to the interview would be an idea, just to be on the safe side.

My medical was over in under 10 mins. I was so shocked this was what I paid almost USD 400 for:

Doc tested my stomach to see if I was pregnant (haha ... as if I would be pregnant with my fiance half around the world!), he tested my blood pressure, asked me if I was ever treated for any serious illnesses, listened to my heart and lungs and that was it!

A few days before this meeting I did a blood test, chest X-ray and got two vaccinations at my local public hospital. All together those lasted all of 10 mins.

Don't worry. As Katie&Sifa above said, its just the infectious diseases the embassy is worried about, although it is a good idea to provide evidence that your fiance will be able to care for you in the event you become ill.

All the best at your interview!

I'm just a simple yard ooman.

my fiance just had his medical in Paris...he read the eye chart, the Dr looked in his ears and throat, listened to his heart and lungs, took a blood sample - I suppose for HIV, gave him two vaccinations and took a chest x-ray...that was it.

Diabetes is not an issue. HIV was taken off the list for testing last fall.

Good answer. Not an issue for the visa. The medication is expensive (I am type 2 myself) so get married and on your new husband's health insurance right away. They SHOULD have a period following marriage where they waive pre-existing conditions.

Incidentally, an H1c of 9.1 is quite high, very high. It translates to an average blood sugar level of about 200+ and that is way too high. You need to get it down to 6.5 or less. Your diabetes is very poorly controlled and you need to address that for your own best interest and now that of your husband. Make a priority in YOUR life

So anyway, i had my medical in London yesterday, all seemed to go fine, was really quick actually....i assume that's a good thing. I had my chest X-ray first which took 2 minutes, then went back to the waiting room, a nurse called me through to discuss vaccinations...i was surprised to find out that the only 'jab' i need is the MMR, i thought i would need all hepatitus etc but apparently theyre not age appropiate. I then went back to the waiting room when the dr called me through, he seemed very pleasant, went through the rest of the medical like a whirlwind...when he took my blood pressure it was a little high, but he said thats pretty much normal given the nerves of the circumstance. Then right at the end he gave me a letter saying he needs info from my Dr regarding my diabetes :( I really feel that this is gonna cause me to fail and not be approved for my visa as my history with diabetes control is not good..it has been these last few months but previous to that was pretty bad...well..very bad, if any of you guys reading this are praying people then please pray that this works out as i am desperately in love with my fiance and want to be with her....Like i said before, i know its completely my own fault that im in this situation but i do now have it under control, thanks for your thoughts and time reading this, Andy
