This is probably something i could find out if i spent some time poking around here, however it might just be easier to ask for some help from my fellow VJer's.

My k1 was approved last month. I POE'ed on the 5th of June. We're getting married on the 28th of June. My fiancée has a sabbatical from work every 7 years and this is the year. He gets 8 weeks off to do whatever he so chooses to do. This year we're going on a road trip from roughly August 1st - early September.

My question is .. Once we marry and send in our AOS papers how long is it before i'll have to attend this biometrics appointment? ( I know no one can be specific with the time frame but is it generally weeks? months?) I got thinking about this the other day because once we leave the driveway we're going to be away for a month or more. I'll have access to the internet but not my mail box. I'm assuming they send you snail mail notification on where / when to make the appointment?

Now i am quite concerned that if we do go away i could miss something very important and delay the AOS process some how. Hopefully i am just over reacting and this isnt even something i should be worrying about.

Any input or thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bevie!

Generally, after you get your NOA's it takes about a month to have your bio appointment. It was almost exactly a month for us, and that seems rather typical. They will send you notice of your appointment through regular mail. Do you have anyone that could check your mail for you? I ask because it says on your biometrics letter that if you miss your appointment your petition will be considered abandoned, and that is definitely something you want to avoid. However, it does say that you can reschedule, so that's an option. Also, I'm not sure what your local office is, but some biometrics offices let you do walk in appointments earlier than your scheduled appointment. Someone from your area may be able to help you out with that!

oh, and i wish i was going by Colorado and Utah ): . But we're starting out here in Oregon and heading east. I'm eventually hoping to meet my mom in Maine to pick up the rest of my belongings. I dont have a lot left but it would be nice to have them here. I dont imagine i will have my AP by then and the chances of us being back in my neck of the woods with the truck are slim, so this seems like a good plan.
