Hey everyone,

Del and I are packing! We're leaving one week from today!! ahhh!!!

Anyway, I had read it was okay if we packed the xray from the medical in the checked baggage.

1) Is this true? Are we going to need it at POE? Are you going to need it ever again (we filed CR1, DCF)?

2) Will the Xray machines that they use on the checked baggage hurt the chest xray? Like damage the film?

Thanks in Advance!

1) Nobody ata the POE is qualified to read the x-ray... pack it

2) no it will not be damaged as the film has already been exposed and processed

YMMV

You can put it in your check-in baggage.

The CO officer at the time of my interview instructed me to do so.

The X-ray will not be damaged. Even it does get damaged, you will not use it in future.

Marina, people told me I was going to need it at POE so I brought it in the carry on, and they never asked for it.

It's hanging in my closet now and I'll probably toss it away.

Pack it and don't worry. You won't need it anymore =)

Boa viagem!!

Thanks guys! Even tough we probably won't need it, I've stuffed it in the bottom of the suitcase, it fits very nicely behind the bars for the wheels of the suitcase, so it's really no issue to pack it.

Now on to real packing. So far the xrays the only thing I've put in the suitcase!

Boa viagem, Marina e Del! :) Don't worry about the x-ray, beyond making sure you have it in your checked baggage, just in case. Probably won't even ask for it, and you can toss it once you've arrived.

By the by, you should look into getting him an Inter-American Driving Permit -- they don't offer the International Driving License in Brazil. It's really cheap, quick to get (L got his a few days ago for about R$30 I think) and it's considered a certified translation in my state. (In fact, because we're moving there with just over 30 days before he's technically out of status according to the I94, until he actually has the green card in hand, he can't get a license as it'll expire with his I94 -- even with his AOS NOA1.) So, that with his Brazilian license should make him street legal until he gets his SSN.

Unless they lose your medical, then you might need it.

IF they were a k1, and USCIS lost the medical, even with the x-ray and the report, it'd probably be worthless -- the US civil surgeon can't read the lab report (as it's in Portuguese and there are only a limited number of people in the US that know Portuguese) and more importantly, they cannot be sure that the x-rays came from the person bringing them. As a result, they would almost certainly require a new x-ray to be taken. It's good to have them in the checked luggage at POE, in case it's requested, but once you're in the US ... no point, unless you're trying to prove to your civil surgeon that you've had the medical exam.

But since they directly filed for a IR1/CR1 visa, her husband has his green card already, so as others have said, there are no subsequent medical exams :)

Unless they lose your medical, then you might need it.

If they lose the medical then a complete new medical is done... nothing would be re-used. However, this is not the situation for the OP as the alien is arriving as an immigrant and immediate greencard, so no other immigrant medical would ever be needed

YMMV
