It would depend on how old I am at that point, what job I hold, how many close friends I have around me.

If I'm still fairly young, hold a well-paying job, and have friends in the U.S. I'm close to, I'd probably stay.

If I'm old, hold a 'meh' job, and I'm lonely then I'd probably return to India so I'm close to my friends and family. During a difficult time, I'd like to have my 'support system' around me.

It would also depend on whether I have acquired USC at that point or if I'm still a GC holder. I would still like the option of visiting/returning some day.

I think most people from first world countries would go back. If you glance at the AOS forum, most in such situations that are seeking to stay, are from poorer countries.

Know what you mean but possibly they are the ones who are 'housebound' too and speak little English. So if they were totally alone it would be tough, and many of the poorer countries citizens have extended families back home. On the other hand, if they had become USC they could return to their home countries for a while and then bring a new partner to the US.

I wonder what typically happens in reality...

Lots of people who are from "first world countries" decide to stay here because they've built a life here and don't want to start over..

If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd go back there and select another fine British husband I am sure.

I was just being realistic. Very few from the first world have the United States on their list of 'places I would move to' anymore.

It doesn't make the US a bad place but [perhaps] it could be that other places offer a better quality of life. You don't exactly have to worry about being shot in AUS, or being kicked to the curb if you lose your job or even losing your job at a whim of the board.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

ah but that's only if he cocks his toes up..

What if he goes off with Delores from Gutamala who lives across town ?

Would that put you off that breed forever ?

My daughter asked if she could get a Thai man and I told her it doesn't work that way.

I don't know, I just speculate

I would get private health cover if I went back to the uk and it would cost - oh I don't know - say $5k for good stuff

Looking fwd to when I am 65, I would pay $6.5k here so not much diff

No way I would let my kids here because of employment law (like you say)and no safety net.

As far as horseflesh is concerned, the spare in Florida is prunified from the sun and pickled in 3 bottles of wine per night (not that I stereotype), so I would certainly not go for a busty Florida Brit chick 60 fags a day Barbara Windsor. I think another bloody yank might be on the cards as I know how they tick now but I sure wouldn't rush.

Yeah I would give it that for 9 months first before returning to the rain

Well, I've been through two already. I'm trying to collect the whole set, so I can see the attraction myself. I expect Sucker Husband No 3 will probably be British too. I'm just warning all the British men on VJ about this ahead of time.tongue.gif

Husband No 2 is staying here and not moving back to the UK. He's much happier here than he ever was there, and has built something of a life for himself. When we realised it was over, I asked if he wanted to go back and he looked at me as if I'd been touched in the head.

And Robin IS far too fabulous for words. It's true.

Already had the grey hairs - I look for them and pick them out with tweezers. He claims not to see them which is why I know he's a keeper.

We've known each other since 1991 and already weathered a fair bit of change.

It would depend on a number of factors - basically what is my financial situation? I have a chronic health problem and may find I don't have the option of a choice if I cannot obtain health coverage in the US. In the best of circumstances, I would probably try and spend half a year in each country - summers in Canada and winters in the US.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Has he got any cash in the bank ? best keep him poor otherwise Liz Hurley might close in...

Seriously now - It was no fun on a wet sunday morning in the UK in November.

A person going back is going to face that initially and all the old flames are happily settled down - so turning the clock back to happier times isn't going to happen anyway.

The old friends will be all over you for ...10 days ?

Nope I wouldn't rush back
