I understand that. Still, the dividend has been suspended, the share price

(of BP Plc as well as the NYSE-listed shares) has tanked, and its management

looks so weak, it's vulnerable to a hostile bid.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gazprom or Petro-China steps in and picks it up

on the cheap. The markets are unforgiving.

I'd love to see that deal get approved by the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers. Ain't gonna happen. This isn't a Cadbury situation here; more likely we'd see the (almost completely far-fetched) Northern Rock scenario playing out, or being sold to another British oil company like Cairn.

That would be a switch. Maybe then the UK could nationalize BP and reclaim the investment.

Under a Conservative government (even one in coalition) I doubt anything is going to be renationalised. Taking a huge stake, yeah.

Stranger things may have happened but believe me my clients (who represent some of the largest institutional investors in the UK) would not be having any of a Gazprom or Petro-China takeover without some major, MAJOR concessions. It staggers the mind to think how one of those two companies could even begin to meet some of the requirements under the Listing Rules vis-a-vis even the stripped down form of corporate governance they would have to put in place if BP was suddenly a secondary listing on the LSE.

If I spilt from him? If it were blood, I would probably spend the next 40+ years on the run from the po-po. Luckily I am not a woman who takes revenge in such crass and base forms. Shell would need 150 billion to look at BP. It's the UK regulator that would have to say yea or nay

It's a lot of Cable TV junk just now and BP can make this loss with the suspension of dividends alone. How come nobody hates Exxon (valdez)? time that's all. How come nobody hates Occidental for the toxic school yard ? Time that's all (I used to work for them )

How come nobody hates Germany or Japan - time.

If it cost 12 bill when it's over, BP will get 8 bill back from the escrow and sue Cameron, Hallibuton and Transocean and recoup half the 12 bill.

A year from now, nobody will remember the 40 pelicans (I bet 10 times that number die of fishermen's hooks so may be a net gain) and BP will be riding high

I KNOW the cat has an agenda, which is to force me into white slavery.

It's San Francisco so there will be a lot of "committed" bachelors, I'm sure. More's the pity.
