Evidence of Marriage/Living Together?

That makes me wonder about something...I filled out all the forms in my 'married name' and I still haven't received any legal proof of me taking my husband's name. I thought I would have my SSN by the time we send the AOS, but I don't and I-94 expired already. I understand that my greencard arrives with the name I wish to use. But is it ok to send in all the papers without no legal proof that I already use my last name/married name?

You can use your marriage certificate as proof of your new last name. You should fill out all of the papers with the name you want to be on your GC. It is a pain it change it later. Good luck!

I, also, have another question. What makes the cases that get forwarded to CSC approved without an interview?

I have read your AOS thread many times. I was one of the members who given your original post a +1. It hepled me a lot while preparing the forms. Thank you for all the help! :)

I second this motion. V & T's AOS preparation post was SO helpful. How refreshing to get very helpful info, and not just sarcasm or belittlement here from rudies.

Your legal proof is your marriage certificate :) Personally I wasn't able to get my SSN changed to my married name before my I-94 expired so the only thing I have in my married name is my bank card... oh and just recently I've been getting health insurance stuff in my married name. Until we get the EAD or GC it's hard to change this stuff anyway and they understand that. They don't need any other proof except the marriage certificate :D Soon as I get the EAD (woohoo approved this week :D) I'll be applying for a DL, changing my SSN (simply because it's been annoying me that it's not uniform :P) and hopefully sometime soon I'll get my GC so I can send of for a new passport (needs to be done in the first 12 months of marriage for Aus if I want to get it changed for free).

No idea what makes cases get forwarded to CSC. I will admit that almost all K1's I've seen have been forwarded to CSC. The percentage seems to be be more of a 80/20 split but of course we don't see 100% of the cases anyway :D I've read that it means your case looks "easy" which is a good thing but I've never seen an official note on it so we're only just guessing.

As for the AOS thread.. I'm happy it helped :) I'll be doing one for ROC eventually as well. I started it but with the AOS stuff, and drivers licence stuff i didn't have the time nor inclination to finish it... eventually I will though... helps me think to write it all down :)

Not the same with my husbands. He needed to give my SSN, show our marriage certificate AND show a letter that had both our names on it proving we lived together and didn't get married for insurance benefits (we're with BCBS). I was a little shocked but not worried of course :D

That's strange. I have BCBS - Texas, and was able to add my husband with no SSN. He isn't in the States yet, but has coverage (such that it is). I did get a letter requesting his SSN, and called to explain the situation. I will have to send it in as soon as he gets the number, though. I didn't have to send them a copy of the license, but they may have gotten it from the HR department in the company I work for.

Did you send any evidence of marriage or living together in the AOS packet?

What did you attach to your AOS packet other than the required forms?

Thanks in advance!

Certified Marriage Certificate only.

We aren't adding Sifa to my health insurance ($750 a month!! What!! Once he starts school we're hoping to get him some less expensive student insurance) but we did add him to my dental and vision - they required a marriage certificate w/i the last 30 days because we weren't in an enrollment period & they can only add people if there has been a "qualifying event" (ie, marriage or birth) in the last 30 days. Guess everyone works differently!

Thank you for all the help, Vanessa, Katie, and everyone else! :star:

We went to the SS Office today and they said they don't have my number yet and it normally takes a long time to receive the SSC (well, not almost 2 months, I guess.)

Well, the AOS packet will be off to Chicago Lockbox on Monday. We have to make a copy of the entire packet and revise it one more time.

As for the evidence, we'll do as we were advised and we'll started collecting it until we get an interview date (if we get one.)

Thanks everyone again for the help! (F)

My hubby got his within 5 days of his application for a SSN. I received my new one with my new (married) last name on it the day before his and I MAILED my application into the SSA office. I find it strange that they are telling you it takes a long time. Maybe it is the office you applied at? Are they super busy?

Not at all! When we were there today there was no one in the office but us. The reason why my SSN is taking long is that when we went there on May 4th to apply, the employee told us that immigration has my birth date wrong in their system, it was the immigration officer's mistake at my POE. He seen it June 4th instead of June 7th on my I-94. Well, my birth date was on the first page of my passport and on my non-immigrant visa page too, the officer could have looked at any page of passport to verify!!! Anyways, the employee at the SS Office took proof of my correct birth date and he sent that to 'immigration' a month and half ago and since then we've been waiting....

Thanks, I certainly will! :)

My husband was able to add me to his health insurance with no social security..am not sure if this goes the same with all insurance companies.

It doesn't. I can't add L to my health insurance until he has a SSN. I was able to make him my life insurance beneficiary without it (and since that doesn't require marriage, he's actually my beneficiary right now), and add life insurance for him without it. Since I will go on leave (and have all-but-life-insurance benefits end) 3 days after our marriage, I'm not adding him on my health insurance.
