Booking the Honeymoon

Hi everyone

We want to take our honeymoon immediately after our wedding, and so there will not be enough time to apply for advance parole. We therefore need to take our honeymoon within the United States.

Does anyone know if you have to pass border control if you travel to Hawaii or US Virgin Islands, or is it just like flying from Atlanta to New York, i.e. you pass through without having to show your passport?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I know that Hawaii does not need a passport because it is a state. I am not sure about the virgin islands. I would think that you don't need it but I am not completely sure. I would go with Hawaii anywayz!!! :D Thats where we would like to eventually for like a second honeymoon! Enjoy your decision!!

I've been to Hawai'i about 10 times (perk of my job, mainly, once for a vacation) and never taken anything but my drivers license with me (despite not being a USC). Don't know about thee US Virgin Islands, might be different as they are not a state like Hawai'i is.

If you decide to go to Hawai'i, I have some tips:

If you like Volcanos, especially erupting ones and big telescopes, go to the Big Island. However I don't recommend it if you like surfing, beaches or snorkling. The beaches are very small and rocky. If you do go to the Big Island stay in Kona, not Hilo. Hilo gets 330 days of rain a year. The countryside on the Big Island can be a bit boring.

If you like Snorkling, Long beaches, surfing and don't mind being in a large city, I recommend Oahu. Waikiki is nice, but very touristy. Honolulu is a big city, so not recommended. The North Shore is great if you don't mind hanging out with surfer dudes.

If you like inactive Volcanos, Countryside, Beaches and want to stay in a smaller more cosy place, I recommend Maui. The countryside is spectacular in Maui, especially the road to Hana and the inactive Volcano.

I've not been to the other Islands.

That thread would seem to suggest that the entry requirements for the US VIs are stricter than Hawai'i.

U.S. and Canadian citizens need only proof of citizenship and a photo ID to enter the country.

There is no such requirement for Hawai'i. All you need to show is photo ID if you fly there from within the USA. I know, as I said above, I have done this many times.

I called USCIS about this a few weeks ago. You can go to USVI and Puerto Rico since they are US territories. The person said it might not be a bad idea to bring a copy of your marriage license just in case there are any problems. We're hoping to go to the Virgin Islands ourselves.
