Hello everybody, this is my sceneario. I have to go my Naturalization Oath in 2 days in Philadelphia, PA. My scenario is that (I'm not sure),I've heard that it is a little bit faster the U.S. passports applications at the passports agencies directly; I've heard that in the courthouses or other agencies authorized by the U.S. department of State is a little bit slower. I don't know if this statement is truth or false. Anybody knows that in the Philadelphia passport agency, Do they keep with my Naturalization Certificate? I perform this question because I need to update my federal and state records right away, and I need to apply for my U.S. passport right away, too (I mean practically the same day or the next week max). Has Somebody applied to a U.S. passport in Philadelphia, PA? Thanks and bye,

My husband submitted his passport application last month at the post office the day after his oath, the passport arrived in two weeks. They will send your certificate with the application, but it will be returned. If you need your certificate for other things, you should take care of them before sending the naturalization certificate for your passport in case it takes longer to get back.

As far as I know, you apply at the Passport agency if you have travels within 14 days (with proof such as an itinerary). Schedule an appointment over the phone, then go over there with all paperwork filled and supporting documents. For new citizens, they will take a look at your naturalization certificate and return it to you at that time. Passports are done within 24-48 hrs max. You pay an expedited passport fee - I believe that is extra $60 on top of the passport fees.

Jcrom-I don't know about the US Passport office in Philadelphia, PA. But I do know (and someone else mentioned too), that if you want expedited service, you need to prove travel within 14 days, and to pay extra for expedited service too.

Regardless, you should update all the other government agencies BEFORE you apply for your passport, in case there are delays in the passport application too. That way you are covered with the other government agencies and have no problems with that. As well, the passport agency might check with other governement agencies (for example, the SSA) about your citizenship status, so it's better to update them first before you apply for your passport anyways.

Lol..If it makes you feel any better...the first thing I did was update all the government agencies, all within a week of getting citizenship. I just showed them my certificate, and that was that.....And to this day, I still don't have a US Passport (but that's another story...).

Though if you need to travel right away, then yes, do make plans to get your US Passport right away, as you can't travel internationally outside of the USA without that.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your oath ceremony, travels, and passport too.
