Hi everyone,

My husband finally received his IR-1 visa and he will be POE'ing from Toronto Pearson next week. Does anyone know if they are usually pretty easy-going there or if they give a hard time? Also, what else should my husband know before he goes??? My husband is a pretty shy, quiet guy and gets nervous pretty easily...i'm the crazy one in the relationship so I'm just a bit worried for him. What sort of questions do they usually ask, etc...thanks!

Hi Cowgirl2... I'm also planning to POE at Pearson next month. It would be great if you or your husband post the experience, especially how long the wait was in the secondary screening room. Good luck and all the best!

Pearson is a great POE. They are polite and courteous but they can be very busy so make sure you leave lots of time before the flight in order to get everything done. Tell him to have everything organized (packet and passport) ready for inspection at the primary inspection point. He will then go to secondary. I wasn't asked any questions at secondary, they just processed my paperwork, took my thumbprint, and explained the next steps to me. All in all a very good experience

Good luck.

Same here. I had a very easy POE at Pearson but as was said, make sure he gives himself TONS of extra time. My flight to the US was at 12.30pm and I got to the airport at 8a.m. I pretty much needed most of that time with security, Secondary and such. Worst case if he makes it through early he gets to sit and have a coffee and read for awhile and revel in the fact that he's on his way to you.

Thanks guys for all your responses. I was wondering if anyone has had a bad experience with Toronto? If so, if they could share please.

I didn't have the most pleasant experience with Pearson POE. It was terrible by any means, but it wasn't really a breeze either.

I was questioned quite in depth by the Officer processing my visa. She asks me A LOT of questions about my application (What did my fiance do, when did we get married (trick question), what city my fiance's parents were born in (I had no idea the names of the cities). I mean all basic questions, but she was acting like my applications/visa was questionable or something.

For some reason I was VERY nervous, so I think that might have set off some flags, who knows. I didn't feel nervous until the very moment I walked up to the desk.

Anyways, it ended up being fine.. she finished with her questions, seemed satisfied and then made me have all my bags searched. My POE took probably 2 hours or around that, so give yourself lots of time and be prepared for questions. You probably won't have them, but you never know.
