Birth Certificate translation

Another quick question, my fiancee has her degree here in brasil in eglish etc... she is going to translate her own birth certificate go to the courthouse here in Brasil and have her signature approved etc... She is not an official translator recognized by the country nor does she have her certification. The fiancee who is using the lawyer, however, translater her own and sent it to the laywer no questions asked. What's the deal with this, anyone can act as thier own translator if they feel they are qualified enough

I don't understand, though, why your Brazilian fiance would need a translation of her birth certificate. It's not needed for the interview. Unless you're talking about AOS.

I should add that it's not needed when you sent out the application either.

Well, I can only tell you that my attorney included it in my K-1 application. When the U.S.C.I.S.official was going through our papperwork today during our interview I noted it in there twice. Once in the A.O.S. paperwork and once in the K-1 paperwork. I also had a third copy with me. The original to be exact.

Once in the A.O.S. paperwork and once in the K-1 paperwork. I also had a third copy with me. The original to be exact.

Rich, the reason I asked the OP about it are the following. The beneficiary's birth certificate is not required to be sent out to the service center with the K1 application (however, it's been pointed out that CSC used to send RFE's asking for it). Also, in Brazil, where his fiance's interview will be held, documents written in Portuguese are accepted. The translation would only be needed later in the process, for adjustment of status.

Yes, a person can do their own translations. Unless the case officer handling the case feels uncomfortable about a possible conflict of interest and decides to request a 3rd-party translation.
