Uptick in Violence Forces Closing of Parkland Along Mexico Border to Americans

About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona have been closed off to U.S. citizens due to increased violence at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The closed off area includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge that stretches along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told Fox News that violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens has increased in the past four months, forcing officers on an 80 mile stretch of Arizona land north of the Mexico border off-limits to Americans.

The refuge had been adversely affected by the increase in drug smugglers, illegal activity and surveillance, which made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

"The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent," said refuge manager Mitch Ellis.

“It’s literally out of control,” said Babeu. “We stood with Senator McCain and literally demanded support for 3,000 soldiers to be deployed to Arizona to get this under control and finally secure our border with Mexico. “

U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials have warned visitors in Arizona to beware of heavily armed drug smugglers and human traffickers.

“We need support from the federal government. It’s their job to secure the border and they haven’t done it,” said Babeu. “In fact, President Obama suspended the construction of the fence and it’s just simply outrageous.”

Signs have been posted warning Americans not to cross into the closed off territory south of Interstate 8. Babeu said the signs are not enough – he said Arizona needs more resources to help scale back the violence caused by the drug cartels.

“We need action. It’s shameful that we, as the most powerful nation on Earth, … can’t even secure our own border and protect our own families.”

They are requesting the National Guard yet I don't see this article citing any evidence of their claims for what is going on there.

But the drug smugglers are only doing a job for Americans that Americans won't do for themselves.

We don't have enough patriotic pot growers to meet the demand for marijuana in this country so we must import it.

Autopsy: Slain Arizona Rancher Shot Multiple Times

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) —

An autopsy shows an Arizona cattle rancher killed three months ago on his property near the Mexican border suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The autopsy report was released in response to a public-records request by the Arizona Daily Star. However, about half of the five pages are redacted because Cochise County authorities say those sections contained information known only to the killer and investigators.

Robert Krentz was on his all-terrain vehicle checking water lines and fencing when he was shot March 27 on his 35,000-acre ranch northeast of Douglas. After the shooting, neighbors and law enforcement officials followed tracks apparently belonging to the killer 20 miles south into Mexico.

Cochise County authorities have said they believe the 58-year-old Krentz was slain by an illegal immigrant who was headed to Mexico and worked as a scout for drug smugglers. Authorities on Wednesday said the investigation is continuing and they won't identify any possible suspects.

Big deal, what's a few dead people here or there - yawn.

The question is, are they inconveniencing 1 in 200,000 Americas arrested for a crime by verifying status, as that is just wrong wrong wrong!

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Are we to assume that the one incident above is evidence of the claims of violence by illegal immigrants and drug smugglers which constitutes calling in the National Guard? The case above is believed to have been committed by an illegal immigrant but also states they have no suspects at this time.

The story in the first post also gives no evidence except a general and wide claim. There is nothing offered by the newscaster or the one officer interviewed about the numbers of people crossing the boarder, the number of violent cases happening involving illegals, the number of drugs smuggled and cases of drugs involved along the boarder, or the period of time which this has been on going.

The video shot starting at 1:37 shows a lot of what appears to be Hispanics moving in in masses in lines across what appears to be desert and crossing the high walls yet the newscaster makes no mention of what that footage actually is. The article states that the building of a wall has been stopped in this area. This B roll is matched with a narrative that lets the viewer assume that this is video of Arizona's boarder since they are discussing it as though it is evidence of the problem in this area that is shut off to US residence. They make no statement telling that this is what the actual footage is when in fact it could be and most likely is older footage from several years ago of many areas even in other states along the boarder or inside Mexico itself.

It's lazy reporting. They don't give specific evidence which constitutes the reasons for the need for National Guard there. They make general claims. They interview one person instead of many. They don't explain the footage they are showing as the B roll.

Do you not pay attention to the news or are you being obtuse? The violence in Mexico is spilling over into America all along the border. You are sounding like someone that just doesn't want to see the truth.

I'm not saying that their claims aren't valid. I'm saying the reporting is lazy. They need to present the evidence more clearly citing the numbers and what is going on exactly. If they are calling for the National Guard the story is of national interest and not everyone knows why Arizona needs the national guard over the other states along the boarder.

It may be lazy but I think they are assuming that most readers have already heard of all the violence and it didn't need to be repeated.

That would make sense if this was a follow up piece targeted for local or regional audiences but the reporter didn't lead in that way. If it was meant to be a national story, which the content is suggesting, then it needs more work. They need to peoplize it doing more than one interview & give the back story of why this particular area needed to be shut off from the public such as the number of violent occurrences that have locals and officials worried instead of sweeping generalizations by officials that "it's out of control". The reporter would be doing their due diligence if the criticism of the presidency & the need for US guard called in was justified with back evidence. Otherwise, the reporter is negligent in only reporting the word of the one authority in the area.

Why not make it off-freaking-limits for Mexicans instead?

But...but...but...Obama and his DHS chief claim the border is as secure as it has ever been. Are they full of sh*t or what?

You need hip waders to plow through their bullshit. Hurry up 2012!

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

There is something wrong with the picture when Americans are being told they can't be in an area of their OWN COUNTRY because of a bunch of Mexican criminals. What are we going to do, just hand our lands over to them bit by bit as they take them over?

But it is for their safety ..as BS as it is.

BUt wait next week the offlimits area will be north of the hwy.

Once the States closes a federal hwy for this reason then Bama and his Loons will have to pay attention.
