Change of address - mistake?

I filed an online change of address, while abroad, so that my mail can be collected and I can receive any mail sent from USCIS. I just realized there might be a chance that this is some sort of mistake or it is illegal or it might come up during the interview process, etc. Am I being paranoid? I just don't want to do something that jeopardizes this process, of course. If I messed up, can anyone suggest a solution.

Thanks in advance,

J

Do you mean you changed it online with the post office to have your mail forwarded or you changed your address on the USCIS website?

Hmmmm I'm not sure. It's certainly not illegal to be living abroad while the petition is processing, I know someone who did that. But it may raise some questions I guess if your permanent address with USCIS is listed abroad. There's also the chance that the mail wouldn't get to you anyway, since I doubt they put international postage on the NOAs - I'm guessing they are just run through a machine.

Is there anyone in the US who could collect your mail for you? That way you could have their address listed, it wouldn't cause any strange questions and you'd be sure you had access to any important mail.

Thanks for the response :)

I was unclear, I changed it to another U.S. address (a family members) so that they can receive my mail and notify me. I just don't hope that was breaking any rules (since, in fact, I did not actually move to this address).

Oh, in that case I think it's fine. Keep an eye on the online system, too. Good luck!
