I know on my visits the departure tax has been waived. Does anyone know the fee (tax) that is charged at the airport on depature from Bogota to the United States. My fiancee and her daughter (Colombian citizens) with a K1 and K2 Visa will travel soon. Want to be prepared with the tax money. Thanks

it depends how you buy the tickets. I traveled with Avianca and did not pay taxes at the airport because they were already included in the ticket. But a friend who traveled with Delta airline through Panama(Bogota-Panama City - LA) had to pay US$57 dollars. Sometimes the ticket includes part of the tax but sometimes not, you have to ask in the airline.

Yes. It depends on which airline you travel on. I flew in on Avianca on saturday and my fee was included in the price of my ticket. I would also send some extra money with them just incase..

For example my fiancee will fly in in Aires and I believe the fee is included but am not 100% sure.

I've never been charged an exit fee by American Airlines or Avianca since that's included in the price ticket. However, when I left from El Dorado in Bogotá with my husband, the person at the AA ticket counter told us that my husband had to pay it since it was the first time he was entering the US with an immigrant visa (CR1). I told her that it was already included in the price ticket and we didn't have to pay for it but she didn't budge and made us pay it. Back in 2007 it was close to $30 USD.

Which airport and which airline did you fly on? I've never been charged a fee when flying through Barranquilla on Avianaca. The price is included on the ticket.

This whole thing is just jacked up, some airlines charge the exit tax and then sometimes they don't. I stayed in Colombia for over 2 months back in '07 and I didn't have to pay it because it was included in the ticket, this was through AA. My mom has stayed for more than 12 months and she's never paid it either with AA or Avianca.

I really don't know what their deal is because it seems like there isn't a clear set of rules about it. Just show up at the airport with the money just in case.

Im not sure if this applies to everyone, but every international airport in colombia has a counter that you go to waive the taxes, they give you a tax exemption ticket that you give the airline rep. I've done that in Armenia, Bogota, Cali, and Medellin, with Avianca, Spirit, Mexicana, and American Airlines. Im a US citizen btw.
