Spelling mistake correction nightmare!

Hi all,

I need some help with a very tedious (as if there's any other kind) USCIS issue. Received my Biometrics appointment notice a few days ago (hurrah) but my middle name was spelled wrong. Wasn't sure whether it was worth correcting but decided to be on the safe side and called USCIS to notify them of the mistake. The operator took all my details, and noted the error and told me to go along to my appointment as scheduled.

But then today I got an email from CRIS <USCIS-CRIS@dhs.gov> stating my details I gave on the phone yesterday, and saying "The status of this service request is:

To obtain assistance regarding your concern, we request that you schedule an INFOPASS appointment at www.uscis.gov to discuss your pending application with your local Field Office. If you do not have access to a personal computer, please note that most libraries have online access. Please ensure to take all supporting documentation as well as valid photo identification to your appointment. Please be on time."

I don't need an Infopass appointment, I just want to tell them they spelled my name wrong! I called USCIS again but all they told me was that I should follow the instructions on the email. So I tried to make an Infopass appointment but there isn't even a category that fits me. What should I do? Ignore the email and just head to my biometrics appointment? Or try to make an Infopass appointment even though I don't fit any of their eligible criteria? Will there ever be an end to this idiocy?

USCIS  ... Try to make an infopass as its the only way they're gonna fix the mis-spelt name... That sucks though but you need to get this done and rectified so you can do your biometrics. All the best to you

I should also say that the Infopass appointment would be in San Antonio and we live in Austin, without a car. Going there would mean taking the train and staying overnight in a hotel. Why won't they let me just fix this one misspelled letter over the phone?

Personally I would have corrected it AT the biometrics appointment because when they go through the biometrics stuff my person asked me to "check" the info on the screen... can you call USCIS and tell them you'll change the name at the biometrics appointment? I know for mine here in Iowa the Biometrics place was in the same building as the infopass place. It would save a trip if you can do it on the same day...
