Joey is right. I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks by drinking at least 1 1/2 gallons of water with fresh lemon daily. The lemon helps to slow the water passing through the body, instead of it heading straight for the kidneys. Good luck and all the best! ;)

...The thing is ive put weight on and my dress is still back in England...

What is it with English girls putting weight on in the US? Seems to be a recurring theme around here.

Who knows? I gained some weight moving to the UK (and, admittedly, eating far healthier than ever) so there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it.

Ah, didn't know about the lemon - nice one. :D

Sidenote: If you can, drink it ICE cold, the body has to burn a greater amount of calories heating the water up to body temp. Again, doesn't seem like much, but the important thing is that constant stream of ice cold water means your body is constantly burning calories to warm it up and therefore your metabolism is working constantly - always a good thing.

I was going to suggest the 'no sodium approach' too.

When I was body building and trying to get down to competition weight, breakfast would be 2 egg whites, one piece of toast, dry. Black coffee or tea. Lunch would be a can of tuna fish (in water), nothing added, and an apple. Dinner would be a piece of chicken, the size of your palm, and small salad, no dressing.

Water... all the time, everywhere.

Tried the SBD once.... got so sick in three days, I had to give it up. The no carbs thing doesn't work for me. Limiting fat and increasing exercise is the only thing my body responds to.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I think it works either way for two reasons, nothing to do with WHERE you go. ONE - we're finally with our SO and so you're finally HAPPY. You're stressing less, less sad - you just get a normal healthy appetite back and it feels like a holiday at first, doesn't it? New country, being with your husband/fiance. TWO - and it's well documented that women put weight on in a happy relationship because they often fit their eating habits to their partners. They serve up two plates of food that are equal not thinking about the fact they need less calories than a man does. There's dinners out and hey, someone to split that dessert with you wouldn't normally get. It's something you have to be aware of to stay on top of, I think...but I think 5lbs or so out of sheer happiness isn't a bad thing :D . I imagine once things become routine and a day to day togetherness becomes the norm we return to our healthier, normal habits :)

You ate white bread and fruit when you were bodybuilding?

I wasn't a bodybuilder, I was more the 'fitness girl'...everyone who I hung out with tho was a competitive bodybuilder. We'd hang out 24/7 & go train together...every morning at 5 am for 3 hours.

We'd eat 5 times a day, but small meals..but never white bread or any fruit. eggwhites/oatmeal for brekkie & plain chicken breast & brown rice and/or pure protein shakes for the other 4 meals. And a gallon of water.

Were you in any shows Jen?

Not white bread... wheat toast. And I yes, only one small apple daily. I needed the fiber and the sugar boost. It worked for me. Of course, a week or so before competition, that was all cut out. 3 hours of weight training daily was about right... 6 days a week. Then did aerobics in addition for 1 hour about 4 times a week. Hard to remember it all now... seems like a lifetime ago.

Yes, I competed in college but when I started my career, I just couldn't devote that sort of time and energy into weight training. Plus, it wasn't the healthiest of lifestyles, with all of the tanning, and the 'not warming up like I was supposed to' stress on my joints, etc.. Things have changed in terms of weight training philosophies now. I still weight train, but not like I used to. Almost wish I hadn't done it... I know what I used to look like... could look like... and that used to always weight on my mind, esp those months after child-bearing....

When I turned 35, I decided that I was going to implement a 5-year plan so that I would look forward to turning 40... planned to be in the best physical, emotional, and spiritual shape of my life. That was the best 5 years, so far... having that goal. And now I am 40 and I have David. Life is good.

Oops... sorry.... didn't mean to hijack!

Wow that's pretty cool

One of my friends right before a show got his body fat down so low, he was having great difficulty moving without extreme pain, because there was no 'cushion' or whatever for his bones & muscles.

Not the healthiest lifestyle at all, but it kept me in awesome shape & prolly saved my life in my accident...of course, I wasn't looking to bulk up at all  I was more into just being toned rather than muscular.

Forget all that...try powerlifting and eat as much as you want! (Well that is until you quit lifting and all that catches up with you).

But as far as advice goes, I don't have much for you, unfortunately. I don't really eat much at all (probably about one and a half meals a day) and my weight stays right where it is. Exercise is the key to actually losing weight.

My brother swears if you do a "low carb" diet.................you can lose weight quickly.

Might not be the healthiest way to go-but it might give you the results you want ;)

low carb, highprotein diet ala 'The Scarsdale Diet" will work, No, it isn't particularly healthy since you set up a type of keto-acidosis where-in you alter the base-acid balance of the body and it starts to burn its own fat and muscle resources. You feel good though:-). Even if you are on it for some time you are supposed to do two weeks on and two weeks off to allow your body chemistry to re-balance, otherwise you can get into trouble with too great of a ketone build up in your blood. It does work for a quick weight loss - and for the short time you have to get the dress to fit, it might be enough, If not, yes, have a tailor lined up for a quick alteration.

I have gained 15 pounds over the two years of living here and I am pretty sure it is because I am eating more as I now eat with someone else regularly and tend to serve more even sized portions. That, and I no longer have stairs that I run up and down innumerable times a day. I wouldnt' be able to fit comfortably into my wedding dress anymore - it was tight then already!

Eat undercooked chicken.

:o:o JOHN!!!! ROTFL!!!!

I didn't say it was a GOOD idea. But ... it will cause a quick weight loss. I suppose death could be one possible side effect, but the primary goal was weight loss.

Exercise is DEFINITELY the best over the long haul! But getting into a dress in 9 days calls for something fast...your best bet is to lose the water weight and, as suggested, cut down on the evening carbs. Healthy for the next 40 years...NO, but it will get you where you need to be. Though personally I'm sure you're going to put that dress on and it's going to be beautiful...
