Deadline between receiving immigration VISA application checklist and sending it back?

Hi there,

My husband and I recently received the Immigration Visa application checklist here in Canada asking for police certificates, passport, evidence of domicile, etc. Obviously, it may take some time getting all your ducks in row and submitting the checklist back along with DS-230 form to schedule an interview. My question is how of a time period do you have? 6 months? A year? Is there a time limit? I know in my case, we're looking at likely several months to get everything ready. Is that acceptable?
