Hi,

I was wondering how often the joint sponsor is "bothered" with sponsoring me?

I am grateful for my joint sponsor, but because he is so busy, I wanted to know how often he will be mailed or called about my status.

I don't want to trouble him too much, so I just want a general iea so I can inform him. It is both of our first time doing something like this.

pretty sure they don't contact your co-sponsor directly. my husband and i have one, we're going through AOS from a K1. only time we had to bug out co sponsor is when we got an RFE for tax info (partly my dumb fault). so if you make sure you get all that it needed to satisfy them you won't need to worry.

i suppose unless in horrible cases where there is a need to enforce the rules of the affidavit of support, then maybe the government will get a hold of your Co-sponsor because he/he is , after all responsible for your spouse as are you (or roles reverse if the OP is the beneficiary).

Oh, wow, that's strange to me! The I-864 asks for a mailing address and a phone number. I thought they interrogate them or something.

I wonder why they ask for this information if they don't need it...

Thank you for the information! :-)

One last question: does the I-864 person at least receive a receipt or confirmation? Like an NOA or something? Or will that be mailed only to me? Will he be notified or changes to my status as they happen, or termination of his requirement to support me (I intend to get a job)?

I don't think so. The only issue might be if they need more evidence about the person - but a request for evidence will come to you and you'll have to approach the person.

My parents are our joint sponsors and they've not received anything.

Getting a job doesn't release him from the requirement - only 10 years of working or becoming a citizen does that, I think.

Oh, I see... I read online somewhere (I know, not the best source) that, at the interview, you can give them a new I-864 if you wanted. However, since it'll only be two-ish years (until citizenship), I guess it's not an issue. I just don't like to burden anyone.

Thank you for your responses!
