i'm guessing based on the subsidies given to offset the costs + the amount of foriegn oil we buy. it sure isn't $5

So, you just pulled that $12-$13 range out of your behind.

until we have affordable means to operate w/o oil we are not going to break our dependence.

So, what is going to trigger the development of those means? It's happening everywhere else in the devolped world and, in fact, in the devloping world. It just ain't happening here. Wanna take a guess why?

Whether it's just rumor by mouth or over the internet, many people think that higher octane fuel improves performance and gas mileage for all vehicles which is false. You stated that use high octane on everything including your lawn mower. I'm just wondering what benefit you think this gives you then?

A higher octane fuel is a cleaner and more efficient fuel - has more energy. What Smoke is talking about is that the more expensive higher octane fuels have additives added to them which help clean your engine and keep it clean. Also why Shell fuel rocks hard.

One must keep in mind though, which I forget myself, that Europe and AUS uses RON alone when determining octane. Whereas, the US and Canada use AKI. 93 in the US is actually 98 in Europe.

On a side note, Diesel now accounts for 50% of vehicles in Europe.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Dude you are a noob, therefore, your so-called knowledge of an individual's nature is severely limited and often wrong.

You are probably right regarding Gringo though, as I not too familiar with the lingo of Latin America.

As mentioned earlier, it gets a little boring having the same battles with new posters. Actually it draws a yawn considering I have been there and owned pretty-much everyone who has attempted to debate me on that front. You are welcome to try though. Feel free to pick a comparison between the two nations you would like to 'discuss'.

I take it then, that reading abilities decrease as you post more and more?

All you said on your first sentence is incorrect. Even if I have a few posts, if I hear quacking, and it looks like a duck, my knowledge tells me we are not talking about a turkey. It's just not me that I use to base my opinion of you. All I know is what you type, which in rare occasions is reasonable, but even so, I have no bearing over your views. I call 'em like I see 'em, noob or not.

You are right, "you not too familiar" with anything Latin.

The "virtue" that these new posters you speak about have that I don't, is that they let go rather easily when dealing with someone like you. It's a shame that one man's fun is another's yawn...

Food for thought, why would I attack you because of your country of origin? Don't feel attacked, by all means don't! If you feel that I attack you for being from such a beautiful country, and because of your academic accomplishments, you PROBABLY (I don't know, don't care to find out) don't have anything else worth bragging about. You could be from Mexico for all I care and still have the same opinion about you.

Works both ways, I just don't feel the need to call you and idiot and so forth. The tone of your first post made it clear you felt that you are smarter than most.

I get it, you are biased towards Mexico and will defend it no matter what. Basically nothing to see move along.

I call 'em like I see 'em

Likewise ;)

Nah, don't call idiot, or anyone else for that matter... They don't seem to care.

Which post by the way? And why are you the only one to get his feathers ruffled? Oh, and based of your correction, does that mean that Mexico's fuel has similar or superior octane rating than Europe and AUS? Can it be? Wow!

I don't know about Mexico's fuel, hence asking you the question earlier on.

So, you post a picture with a fuel pump, with yellow stickers indicating a number (believe it or not it's a standard), and you ask such a question?

Wow, to save you the look back, 87 and 92. Only two types of fuel, one brand (government-controlled Pemex).

And I will ask you again, what first post?

just like the $5 you pulled from yours, i bet my behind is closer to being correct than yours? ;)

idk why don't we try incentives to companies to develop them. while not forcing people to eat home grown potatoes & cabbage three times a day. even better let them eat the potatoes & cabbage, then use the ideas that work for them.

As in your first posts in OT - in general. After all, you seem to butting heads with pretty-much anyone who disagrees with you. The only difference is that I am willing and bothered to nudge you back. I guess it has something to do with my European ancestry.

Yes I posted a picture, thank you for stating the obvious. Now, prior to the picture, I asked you twice about Mexico's fuel, considering you implied you were well-versed on fuels. Yet strangely enough, you yourself knew nothing about the difference in ratings.

Well, you do take the crown... Craftsman and Stanley are jealous at this point.

Uh, I just read that, and only saw the one with the picture... I am not necessarily well-versed on fuels, but I remember covering that bit in the organic chemistry chapter back in HS.

try it yourself. spend the extra $.10-.15 a gallon on your next couple fill ups. you decide after that what to believe. again try it yourself or ask your mechanic 'which engine is cleaner when you crack it open an engine run on 87 octane or 93 octane?'

i think you'll have a different opinion after your experiment & research.

Oh and BY, you are not yawning. I just noticed that you are very much into debating with me... How come you edit, and edit, and edit your posts to add more fuel to the fire (no pun intended)?

Quite true. It's also why I don't use cheap azz fuel in my car. On top of burning more efficiently, the higher quality fuels have extra additives to keep your engine clean.

It's the same deals with oil. A synthetic oil is much better for your engine that some bottom of the barrel oil.

Not really - there was a number of $4.60 floated as to how much a gallon of gas should really cost.

Incentives are great. Bringing the cost of gas closer to what it should be in the first place would be a great incentive - to use less and to get up to speed on viable alternatives. Keeping the status quo obviously isn't incentive to change anything. And if you are talking about tax break type incentives, those ought to be paid for. How do you do that?

your source newsweek doesn't believe it either :If Parry is right, it should be as high as $4.60.

sorry making everyone to eat potatoes & cabbage still isn't a good idea. idk how we fund the incentives. or if tax incentives are the way to go. but, if so & if we follow obama's lead, we just do it & let the next guy pay for it.
