There's only so much you can pass on to the consumer. At some point, consumers will change

their habits and consume less energy - which is arguably a good thing.

It's a tax, like any other. We do need to close the budget deficit, you know.

It's a domino effect though.

Fuel For Trucks That carry products for instance. It's literally a tax on EVERYTHING there is that we consume.

Even if it's a few pennies on items, those pennies add up very quickly.

Now add that to home heating, home cooling, filling up your own car at the pump, bills for other services, etc.

This literally hits everyone all at once.

If you want to close the budget, make military cuts, make medicare cuts, make social security cuts, stop allocating federal funds to cities/states, etc. for BS projects...

There are plenty of areas to help close a gap. This isn't a smart way to do it. Especially when it's being done off unproven science behind #######.....

i'm not too sure making everyone suffer is the way to go. if the price of transportation, food, & utilities rise too much. it won't be pretty.

What was it, two years ago, that grocery prices suddenly shot up? I think it was 2008, maybe 2007. But back then SPAM suddenly showed up in our grocery stores. It was weird cuz I hadn't seen it before, and I haven't seen it since. No SPAM to be found today, that's all the evidence I need that our local economy is doing just fine.

But if food prices go up, we all have to eat SPAM :crying:

They will rise anyway, if we do nothing. Oil is a limited resource and will get more and more

expensive as time goes by.

I don't think Cap & Trade will tax the heck out of everyone from day one. The goal is

to reduce US emissions 14 percent below 2005 levels by 2020. Not exactly an earth-shattering

reduction by any definition.

no its not earth shattering, its reasonable. the increased tax burden placed on business is what scares me. the taxes will be passed on to the consumer. that could very well be budget busting for those w/o means to make up the difference.

You offer incentives for development, but you don't punish people in the mean time. That's BS.

What's BS is that we still don't pay the true cost for fossil fuels. Corners are cut all over the place when it comes to the safe exploration of the resource - the oil in the Gulf is but the latest piece of evidence.

public transportation in the US is not equipped to deal w/ consumers having to pay the true costs of fossil fuels. those living outside large metro areas would suffer immensely & immediatley if gas shot up to $12-$15 a gallon. then we'd all get hammered at the grocery store.
