my green card is marked "Permanent Green Card", but it has a two year life time. my question is that if it is permanent why expires with in two years like a temporary one?

You have a conditional greencard. You received the 2 year green card probably because you and your husband have been married for less than 2 years. You will be eligible to remove conditions and apply for a 10 year green card 90 days before your green card expiration date. You will need to file form 1-751 for removal of conditions. Please see the lifting of conditions guide in the Guides section for more details.

The word "Permanent" on your card is almost certainly part of the phrase "Permanent Resident". Your card says that because you are a Permanent Resident, just one whose permanent residence status expires in two years. You are what is called a "Conditional Permanent Resident." In two years, after you remove those conditions, you will be a "Legal/Lawful Permanent Resident."

Yes, it's a little confusing, and possibly even misleading, that your status is called "Conditional Permanent Resident." I mean, isn't "Conditional Permanence" a contradiction in terms? And then to abbreviate "Conditional Permanent Resident" by dropping the word "Conditional", thus removing any useful, relevant information from the phrase? It's easy to see where the confusion might come from. Just roll with it. It's more a matter of tradition than anything else. :)

I don't know where to post this question, I found this the closest.

Since I will be receiving my permanent green card soon, I am now working on changing my names to all my online/mail/ID etc accounts - then I came across the AR-11 (change of address) form.

I filled out the AR-11 form when I was in a non-immigrant working visa. Now I'm married and have to change my name and US residence status - do I have to submit a new AR-11 form even if I didn't technically change addresses?

In answer to your question, no, you do not have to fill out an AR-11 if you are still living at the same address you put on your I-485 application. You only need to fill out an AR-11 if you have moved from the last known address USCIS have for you - which is, I'm assuming, at this moment, the address you gave them on the I-485 when you applied for your green card.

No, it isn't. The card is marked Permanent Resident, unless they gave you a fake one. You'll be a permanent resident until the card expires, which is in 2 years. In order to continue being a permanent resident, you'll have to remove conditions. Then you'll get a 10-year card.

The 'condition' is only an internal term. For all practical purposes, the 2-year card is the same as a 10-year card.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Yeah I was just hoping It'd be more appropriate to squeeze it in something that's closely related, on my perspective. I'd keep this noted.

Thank you for your inputs - good to know I won't have to worry about the AR-11 for now.
