hello

ok i am going to Texas next week for the summer with my kids to stay with hubby

I dont got passports as Montreal has them since Apr 28

i did go get enhanced drivers for me and enhanced ID for my 16 year old and i am using birth cert for 9 year old

this is what i got to prove TIES

Letter from job stating i am employeed and will be returning aug to work

letters from kids school showing they reg for next year

RETURN greyhound bus tickets

letter from My mother stating We live with her and are going to texas for VISIT and stating date we return

my parental agreement showing i have PRIMARY CARE AND CONTROL OF CHILD ( custody) as well as a letter stating child may go to usa

letter from INLAWS in Texas stating we are ONLy there for a visit

can anyone think of anything else i should have

I dont have lease agreement as we live with my mother

i dont have utilities in my name

i am bringing my I130 info to show them i am doing things legal way to show i would not jeopardize that (maybe will show my honesty) as they seem to think everyone lies at border.

anyone have any other thoughts on what to bring for border cause we travel by greyhound and hate to be denied at border with 2 kids as greyhound dont bring ya back and we need to visit hubby so badly

HELP ..... ANY IDEAS.......

i leave june 22 so i got time to get any papers ya'll think i should get.

It looks good to me, do you have an id card, like a Health Care card for your youngest one, on which there would be a picture of him/her?

Bring everything concerning your visa application, and if you have a copy of the interview letter to prove that they have your passport and what not that would certainly help.

Don't bring more luggage than you need to either.

Good luck, I'm also going for a visit and am a little freaked at being turned around at the border. But everything will be ok, like someone told me, we on VJ are only a fraction of those going through the visa process, and I'm sure there are thousands out there crossing for visits while waiting...

Good luck!

Something else you can do - purchase travel health insurance for the 3 of you to cover the time you are away. It has a dual purpose - protection in case you do need any type of health care while in the US and proof of the intent to return as it will have an expiry date. I believe most banks sell some sort of travel health insurance - I know TD Canada Trust did as I always made sure I purchased some whenever I visited the US.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

When I went I took with me:

- Letter from employer stating date of leave and return.

- Letter from parents stating that I live with them and our payment arrangement.

- Phone bill showing I maintain a Canadian cell phone.

- Payment schedule for my car.

- Insurance payment schedule for my car.

- Payment schedule for computer.

- Recent bills [credit cards, etc.]

- Recent pay stub

- Copies of ALL immigration papers, especially the NOA1/NOA2 and receipts of the payments.

You could also take recent taxes showing that you filed in Canada, etc.

Sounds to me that you have enough information.

Stuff like things from your childrens school is a really good idea.

You should be fine.

Just put it together with a cover sheet, give it a staple and keep it with you.

Good luck and have a fun trip! =)

Hey! I just came to the US yesterday to pick up my fiance returning from overseas (he was delayed until tomorrow, sad face)... anyways, I have ZERO ties to Canada (ie not working, don't hav my own place) and had absolutely no problem crossing the border by land. I think the most important thing is to understand you KNOW you are not doing anything wrong and to just give short, informative answers when they ask questions. I had tons of papers showing that I owned my car and the payments I have left on it, my old work contract and final review showing I left on good terms and am not working because I'll be moving soon anyways, all my bank records showing I can afford to support myself here, hotel reservation, photocopies of my petition and ever single piece of ID you could think of. It was actually almost TOO easy! She didn't ask me where I worked or how long I'd be staying for. She was more concerned about why I have a current visa to work in the middle east.

I have never ever had a problem crossing the border by land and I think as long as you stay positive, polite and straight forward you'll be fine.

Good luck!

04/09/2015 IV payment finally accepted by NVC after the set the wrong fee and took weeks to correct it.

*many more delays thanks to the agency processing my fingers prints to the RCMP and the post office losing our mail*
