Hi All,

Just want to have some ideas of those who have experienced an I485 approval after the initial interivew if over. I just finished an interview on Wed. June 9 for AOS from F1 through a marriage to a US citizen. Silly me, I submitted and brought a copy of Englihs-written birth certificate issued by the Embassy of Japan here in the States, but failed to take the Family Registry of my nation written in Japanese, on which my English-written certificate issued. So, we did not get approval on the interview day. I immediately sent a copy of the Family Registry to the local USCIS, where I had an interview. My web account was touched for an initial review. I woule like to know how long it will usually take to recieve a final approval in this case. I would really appreciate it if those who have smiliar expereinces could give some ideas.

Thanks for your help as always.

** moved from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" as you are adjusting from a F1 visa and the prior forum is for K1, K2, K3 & K4**

Well, that still depends on whether you will be approved. You have not stated whether the IO had indicated that he/she is approving your case. It can take from 1 week to 3 months before you hear from the USCIS after you submit the required documents. I had a similar situation and during our interview was asked for some documents in original that I did not possess at the time. I personally delivered those documents in a sealed envelope, within a few days and then had to endure three infopasses and intervention of my Congressman & Senator before I heard from the USCIS. I am not saying every case takes this long, but unless the IO has indicated your approval, you should give them atleast 3 weeks to hear something. Good Luck!

Hello SASPK,

Thank you very much for your reply. Good to know that somebody had a same experience. Indeed, the IO indicated an approval upon a reception of my birth certificat in Japanese. She said that she would approve I130 at the interview and the green card will be issued sometime in July if I submitted immediately. Thanks again for sharing your expereince. I try to stay patient a little bit more.

Sincerely,

Kirakira

It's hard to tell how long it's going to take to get the official approval in the mail. My advice is keep following up with them until you get a response. Infopass is the best follow up strategy, if you don't hear back from them within 3-4 weeks. Good luck!
