hi, i was wondering if anyone can help me with this... i know this is an american site, but i was still hoping someone may know... i am australian and my fiancée is egyptian. we want him to immigrate to australia, but atm neither of us have work, but my son is willing to sponsor him (my son works)... immigration laws have become very tough here, and before forking out the almost $1000 for a fiancée visa, only to have it denied, i would really like to have a bit more information... and what do i do to apply for this visa

Nearly $1000? It's more like $1735 just to apply. Is your fiance in Australia? That would explain the lesser cost.

I looked at the Australian process before we decided I would move to the US. I know they can ask for an Assurance of Support in the form of a bond. The Dept will decide if this is applicable or not. This is usually $5-$10K and is lodged with Centrelink. You do not need to be the financial assurer. So if your son is an Australian Citizen and has not received any Centrelink benefits for 12 months, then he will qualify.

This is a link to the sponsorship form requirements:-

You do have one thing right, the Australian system is much harder and longer than the US system. Hope that helps ... best of luck ... :star:

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
