i am wondering what is the average time at JFK when entering country. On Anna's flight she has two hours to make connection to Atlanta from JFK. Is that enough time or should more be allowed to make connection.

My stepson came from China in Febuary and he spent 1 1/2 hours .Most people plan on at least 3 hours when dealing with immigration and customs.JFK is a large airport and a bit of a headache to get around in. She can also ask for a stamp to work while at the immigration part. It will help get a SS number if she is a K-1。

As mentioned, it depends but sounds like the ticket is already purchased. I would allow no less than three hours and preferably four. As long as there's another flight with a seat on the same airline later the same day to Atlanta, they'll put her on it. Two hours is the shortest "legal" layover time for international transfers but for somebody coming to the US for the first time on a K visa, they need more time in immigration than other people do. I'm pretty careful about scheduling and have still had three extra overnights due to missed connections on just the last two international trips.

my hubby came through on a Sunday and he said it took about a total hour to get through getting his visa stamped, biometrics and customs. If your wife is flying with Delta, they are the easiest to get to once she gets out of customs. With having a short time between fllights, all she needs to do is let them know that she has only a couple of hours and they will get her through quicker!

Congrats on your wife coming over!!

I would always allow for FOUR hours between flights at JFK. Alla is coming back Tuesday and her flight from Kiev arrives at 4:35 and her flight to Burlington is 10 pm. I have taken that flight many times and rarely get out of the customs are much before 7 pm, then she has to go to another terminal and check in. She will have to go through customs at JFK.

It is not because she is a K-1, it is because JFK is very busy and many of the eastern Europe and Middle east flights arrive between 4-6pm. It is just crazy busy.

Yes, Anna's interview is on July 14th. She will then travel back to Kirovograd and fly here on July 31st. Her flight leaves Kiev at 1120 ans comes into New Your at 230pm. Her connecting flights leaves for Atlanta at 720pm. I had saw the other that left left JFK at 420 pm but really did not feel great about it and that was my reason for posting. Thanks for all the Information.

Gary, we handle the cat issue. Here is what happen with that. Anna took the cat to local vet there and total cost for shots was 45 dollars. Base from the information from Kiev Vet at airport given to Anna when she call to them she must go back to local vet there in Kirovograd and get certificate and translation and come to airport with in five days of traveling to USA.

That will not be a problem working from the advice of you and others we elected to have her travel back to Kirovograd and get her visa and she would have to do that anyway to meet the requirement for the cat.

Of course we are aware of the "special fee" at Kiev when boarding the plane in the amount of 100 dollars when your paper work is not in order.

Police report in Kirovograd took three days to get with paying the extra 10 dollar fee for faster service.

Spoke to Anna this morning and exchange rate there was 7.93.

Thanks again for all the info.

I arrived yesterday (POE: Detroit) on a K-1 and it literally took me 5 minutes! He just asked me my paperwork, asked what my fiance does for a living, informed me that I have to get married within 90 days, and leave the country before these 90 days... For the last information, ummm, whatever, don't know where he got that info from!

Anyway, 5 minutes!

I opted to do POE in Atlanta rather than in the NY/ NJ area. Even so, we have a little over 3.5 hours between flights. Your life will have less stress if you are bored and waiting for a flight, than if you are looking at your watch, while stalled in an immigration line, as your flight departs. ;)

Typically, most crowded international flights land early in the AM, since people preferred to flight overnight.. not recommended to schedule any connections less than 3 to 4 hours in between, safe way to get to the destination on scheduled time.
