I'm sure there's an answer to this question summer but I can't seem to find it.

My petition should be arriving at the NVC things week. How can I track it? I don't think the USCIS gives more info on the webpage from this point on. Thanks.

The answer is...you can't. You will receive a letter from NVC with a case number when they forward it to the consulate. Until then there is no way to get any accurate information. They have a mis-information line you can call...for free. Normally they tell you that they haven't received it yet (they have, they received it before you got the NOA2 in the mail) Other times they tell you that it is in "administrative processing" which it may or may not be, but again, there is no way to track it.

One 'process' you can do -

About 2 weeks after NOA-2 'notice date' -

call into NVC, get a Human, give USCIS receipt #, receive Embassy CaseNumber, also ask them when it left NVC.

Then call DOS Hotline (# in my profile), get a Human, and inquire (with Embassy CaseNumber) for casefile status, about once a week.

At some point, the Human at DOS will tell you , that the casefile was opened at the Embassy. That's a good timetick, start prepping the Packet 3 stuff when you hear about 'casefile opening'.

Sounds like as unproductive a way to spend nervous energy as any, but how does it "track" anything? By the time the consulate says "we opened your package" he will have the letter from NVC and the case is long gone from NVC

Better to spend the nervous energy preparing packet 3 items now (why wait until the embassy has it?) I had all our Packet 3 items prepared before we sent the petition (except I-134)

I can also suggest some other ways to expend nervous energy...

1. Arranging ESL courses for when she arrives

2. Arranging further education if applicable

3. Paint the kitchen

4. Tile the bathroom...

All of the 4 above are PROVEN to expedite the case just as effectively as multiple phone calls to humans that couldn't possibly care less.

The fact is that there is no way to track a case because the government does not want you to track a case and does not want to be bothered with reporting to any of the hundreds of thousands of people sending visa petitions and applications. Sure, by hook and by crook you can find where something is sitting on a shelf. That is not "tracking". USCIS and NVC are not Fedex.

Gary - casefile status is trackable - heck - there's even timeticks for it in YOUR profile. As for 'nervous energy' - sorry - your term, not mine.

Seriously, sounds to me like you've not called into DOS Hotline in some time. The Humans at DOS Hotline have all case status from the Embassies, albeit 24 hours off. 'Case file opened' is best indication the casefile made it over. 'Packet 3 sent', for some countries, is good indication to prep that Packet 3. 'Appointment Date Set' is also another good time tick.

if the OP is trying to physically track the package movement from NVC to the Embassy IV unit, during the shipping process, ya - on that bit - I agree - is serious waste of time and energy.

But that was NOT was I was writing about, here. My apologies if any confusion about 'that'.

Ok, thanks.

From the looks of the time lines it should only take about 2-3 weeks for the process, and one has already gone by, so it shouldn't be too long.

Good advice about the things to do, lol. I probably won't be tiling since I plan to soon leave this apartment. My fiancée is quitting her work this week to study English full time, so I hope we do get the visa! Oh well, giving up a $1.50/hour job isn't something to cry over anyhow.

When the packet does get to the embassy here, do I just have to wait for it to be review? I understand that the average for my consulate is about 30 days before the visa is actually reviewed and we can then get an interview date, is that correct? If so, is there anyway I could find out exactly what things my consulate will be asking for so I can prepare them in the meantime?
