Hey all,

Three simple questions.

1) The VJ sample Affidavit has at the top of the first page underneath the words "UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY"

this thing:

#A _________________________

Am I correct in assuming that this is a typo, meant to be

A # ________________________

where the immigrant spouse's alien number goes?

2) Does the notary public have a special form that the person who is going to sign the affidavit (our friends) needs to fill out? Can they just fill this form as it appears in the sample affidavit (same format that is), removing of course the words [NOTARIAL SEAL] for where the seal is supposed to go? I am asking because a friend of mine has no computer and she wants to just write it out herself using black ink. If the notary public has a special form, she could just adjust what she wrote to fit in that form, then swear and sign it. Is such a thing possible?

3) Does an affidavit have to be one page long or can it be more than one pages long?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Real Pi.

1) A# is correct.... I've seen references to it as #A but if you look on your GC, it is A#.

2) No, any document that the author signs in-front of the notary public will do.

3) I am not sure about this, but I had the same question when I was preparing these documents for our friends and I ended up leaving them at 1 page. Your friends can go to their local bank which has a notary public and should be a free service to members of the bank. You can call and ask to see how they would handle a notarized document that is more than a page and see if they have any special instructions.

hope this helps.

Just to let you know our affidavits were not notarised and it was just fine. :) If you want to have them notarised, that's fine too. A notary will have the proper documentation for notarisation of a document; you need not include the language on the document itself if it is an issue. Indeed, different states have different language that a notary must put down in the statement so the VJ language may not fit the bill anyway.

Thank you both v33k and elm for the quick help! :) V33k, as regards 3), I will find out what I can and then put up an update on this question so we all know.
