Yes, very special indeed!

In other words used Affirmative Action to enter. This is very likely the case of Harvard having to keep their quota and allowing x in. Now that they know he is illegal, they are using this to make a political stance like: see not all illegals are bad people.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Since you are profiling (because that's what you are doing), I can only ask you not to worry. Taxi cab driving, and 7-Eleven clerk jobs are safe. The illegals have now resorted to higher education.

Just because a non-Anglo gets accepted into a prestigious university doesn't mean that Affirmative Action was the reason.

Just in case you do not realize the obvious, this is a forum; thus the discussion at hand. No one is expecting to influence policy using the OT section of an immigration forum.

Thank you, my Aussie friend. I think you should tell that to the person that debated my point about being bystanders. Discussing, debating, getting tangled elbow over ...hole, etc. in the end it's just that. No change will come out of a particular thread, catch my drift?

Did they increase the AA quota or something?

I was merely making an observation. You have Mexico's flag on your profile. Meaning you or your spouse is from Mexico. You're clearly in favor of this kid getting to stay and finish his Harvard education and possibly even becoming a USC. To me, your stance isn't all that surprising, to be honest. I just said something a lot of people were thinking but didn't want to sound rude.

And, that's okay. We all feel the need to defend certain things about our native country or maybe even our spouse's country. For example, whenever someone bitches about Dell customer service representatives in India and how they can't speak a word of English, my husband feels the need to rise to their defense. I'm not sure why, but I think it's cute.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

Why not have him return to Mexico and contribute to Mexican society--given that this kid is clearly very bright, studying mollecular biology at Harvard and whatnot?

Spot on there. Right or wrong, we all do it. I defend AUS and people defend the US.

Realistically, it's same the deal with any topic. Those with a Latin American spouse will almost always come here and defend anything Latin, no matter what. Accuse anyone who speaks up about a touchy yet serious topic as simply being a bigoted racist.

Very few people are capable of having a logical and rational discussion when it comes to issues that affect a group they associate or have some connection with.
