hello all,

sorry if i seem vague with my question here but i feel that the "whole" story isn't relavent. my question(s) is this:

while going through the medical exam we were told that we HAD to get the HPV vaccine. They told us to contact the health department. We contacted them and they told us that since she is over 19 years old (she is 22) they won't give us the vaccine. We contacted the doctors office again and they wrote us a prescription to go and purchase the vaccine ourselves and bring it to them to get the shot. We do not want to get this vaccine. I have been told that you do not have to get the vaccine as of new rules that came out in 2009. but the doctor told us that we don't have a choice. does anybody have any information on this? if there is any other information that you need to better help you answer this please ask. thank you so much

I would recommend that you find a different civil surgeon.

It is no longer required. Here is that information on the USCIS site:

3. The February 25, 2010 edition of the Form I-693 reflects that an individual should no longer be tested for HIV infection, and that individuals do not have to be vaccinated with the herpes zoster (zoster) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Any reference to HIV, HPV or zoster has been removed in the February 25, 2010 edition. If a physician is using the October 14, 2009 edition of Form I-693, the physician should:

Write "No longer required" in the entry for HIV testing, and for HPV or zoster (if applicable)

And the Center for Disease Control:

Is the human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) still required under the new vaccination criteria?

No. HPV does not meet the new vaccination criteria set by CDC and is not required for the immigrant medical exam.

er...seeing as you said since shes over 19 they won't give it to her, have you by chance confused it with the Hep B shot? They usually don't give that over 18. The HPV though is, as others have said, no longer on the list, and if they try to argue with you about that one I would print out and take in the new instructions that state that.
