Notorized affidavits from friends or family for I-751?

Hi, we just started our I-751 process for my wife and her daughter. The directions for the form I-751 read that we should have "Affidavits sworn or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of us since the conditional residence was granted"

My question is do these affidavits need to be notorized? usually an afidavit is notorized but the directions do not specify this. Has anyone had experience with this before and what did you do?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No need to notarize. When I sent in my application, I had them notarized but many people have mentioned that they sent in ones without being notarized and they were accepted.

By definition an affidavit is: A written declaration made under oath before a notary public or other authorized officer. Citation

also:

Written statement made voluntarily, confirmed by the oath or affirmation of the party making it, and signed before an officer empowered to administer such oaths. It usually names the place of execution and certifies that the person making it states certain facts and appeared before the officer on a certain date and "subscribed and swore" to the statement.

I would ere to the side of caution and have them notarized. You'll hate yourself if you find out later that a simple stamp on a piece of paper and a few bucks just screwed up the process. I paid for the notary services for our affidavits so there was no expense to the affiant. One of them even came from my friend who performed the marriage ceremony and is in fact a notary, only he couldn't notarize his own affidavit so I had another friend do his.

Many banks have notaries, some UPS shops, I had something notarized in a pharmacy once. It really is no big deal and it just cost a few dollars, so I would recommend doing it...

I have had documents notarized at my local Chase bank branch for no fee.
