Hello everyone, I need some help about a SOFA status issue. My husband is in Japan right now and he's a Gov't. worker and his under a SOFA status and I will be joining him there under the SOFA status too (so basically no visa is needed). My question is is it really a must/ do I need to change my passport to my married name since what I have right now is my old passport that still carries my maiden name. We got married last April of this year and I tried changing my passport at the Dept. of Foreign Affairs however they're asking for an NSO copy of our marriage certificate but since its just a month old the NSO still doesn't have a record of our civil wedding in Guam and they said it will take 1-2 mos. for them to have a record of our civil wedding in Guam. I'm about to get my dependent ID card next week God's will and I just want to make sure there would be no trouble at the airport once I'm about to enplane. If anyone has the same experience pls. help me.

Thank you in advance.

I would think that the copy of the US marriage certificate you received from Guam would suffice. You should still register that with the NSO, but the NSO can give you a certified xerox copy of the original, and you can use that to file. They cost about 150 PhP each. My wife requested 4 copies, and had them in hand in less that 5 days. Hope this helps.
